Do you still disagree with a previous post regarding this horses MR. National Command finishes 1.75 behind Red Tribution won by Tiwi Bomber. No change in MR for either horse. National Command beats Red Tribution today by 1 length today. Surely it is time for Red Tributions MR to take a cut or, as I said last time, this horse may never win again.
... MR is a subjective practice and is supposed to be based on horses finishing in a straight line on the finish line. Dont see this in the case of Red Tribution and I am sure there are many others.

There was a false start.
Maybe not quite a race result to be too dogmatic about?

And the winner was the only horse that never jumped.

In December Red Tribution (RT) met National Command (NC) and Tiwi Bomber (TB).
Their ratings were 79, 68 and 83 respectively, and they finished 7th, 1st and 6th.
So we have 3/12/08
NC 1st 68, goes up 4 to 72
TB 6th 83, stays 83
RT 7th 79, goes -1 to 78
17/12/08
RT 78, runs 2nd to Intellectual(95) and beats The Walrus(78) and Kahalay(85)
stays 78
28/12/08
1st TB 83, +4 to 87
2nd RT 78, +1 (back to) 79
3rd NC 72, stays 72
You are just looking at National Command.
In the mean time, Red tribution beat The Walrus who is also 78. If the handicapper puts Red Tribution down, what about The Walrus (78), who he should beat again.
The point is the handicapper is balancing hundreds of horses, not one against one, and has to consider the effect of all the other horses around RT. The trainer who better programs his horse will get the most out, RT squeezed in another run (and won R16,000 for a 1lb adjustment to give The Walrus a chance) that TB and NC did not, and must live with the consequences.
I so wish the idiot handicappers would publish their race ratings to unravel the 'black box' effect of merit ratings! I'm not going to comment on today yet because this is tedious enough, but I don't think the handicapper has done anything wrong given they are retroactive and don't use a crystal ball. Let's see what they do next.

Makes sense - Thanks JD. Would love to see Red Tribution win at some stage though. This horse has had quite a bit of racing over the last while without a win.

Any comments as this horse continues to battle for the winners box and gets beaten again by National Command.
Time to shave some points off the MR mister handicapper. The finishing in a dead heat theory is not quite working out is it?
