Champion Horse??

Why does GC and P stage a triple leg or a round or races in the 3 major centres that will run up to the July giving horses to run in each of the legs in the 3 centres to show that they can compete outside they own turf and win and then having teh final showdown in the JULY???

This will eliminate horses ruling there own centres when they have not run with teh others.

Your hearts in the right place when you use words like 'champion' and 'showdown'.

But how can you determine a champion in a handicap? They made the point last night and you have to ask the question who was better: Bush Telegraph 49.5Kg vs Model Man 58Kgs and a couple on lengths between them?

Ironic laughter when the ex handicapper referred to himself as a 'stopper'.

Ultimately, while the July is so prestigeous but at the same time handicaps horses, then some horses will avoid 'penalty' races in their program and skip races like the Met (eg Rudra) or will miss the July because of penalties (eg Horse Chestnut).

But a fine idea though, perhaps a Gr1 1600 (highveld, not too far for sea breathers), 2000 in CT and 2400 in KZN (ok, 2200). All Gr1's, HUGE trophy for grandslam champ.
