Telly Track - why is pic so poor?
16 years 5 months ago
I have been doing a little research on high definition broadcasts.
Apparently, it's awesome and sports & wildlife is stunning, like being right there, or better say reports.
The Telly Track broadcast is one of the worst pictures we receive on dstv.
The pictures from the UK are good and the feed from France is the best we get in my opinion. I am taking into account the harsh African contrasts.
Perhaps someone involved can comment why the picture is so bad, sometime whole jpeg blocks come through. Is this not a good time just to get the broadcast up to "standard' definition while soccer can go on to high def?

Trunkey Monkey,
what a stupid comment - why not post something constructive?
Picture quality is piss-poor - how can we improve it?

Television in all shapes and forms is run on the back of advertisers. There are hours and hours of airtime wasted on repeats and still shots of the following days "programming".
My suggestions: - Make racing attractive
1. I have mentioned before in a previous post, Tellytrack should share airtime with a different industry. Fashion. Why do they not align themselves with the local fashion industry as they do at the Vodacom July and Met and let local designers show there wares on the channel. They would attract advertising revenue and a completely different market to the channel and perhaps youth, vibrancy and a new market to horse racing.
2. Racing is littered with business people. Why not offer them preferential rates on advertisement spots. I can only guess that advertising spots are not being sold... EG Gomma Gomma Challenge is one of our major events. Why are the studios not fitted and sponsored by Gomma Gomma and the sponsor can be credited for this. What does a couch cost the manufacturer?
3. Don't allow half ass productions on to the channel. I think Winning Ways is a good show but the presentation is piss poor. There is a racing person in most walks of life and you cant tell me that there aren't any set, logo and graphic designers that cant help put on a better show for Jimbo and Laffs. Has anyone noticed that Going to Post uses the same theme music, which is crap. I can create a better jingle on my PC without doubt.
In surmising, I believe that although these guys try, they are lumped with a lot to do and there seems to be a lack of artistic flare. Andrew Bon and Aiden Lithgows productions in my view are by far the best thing (besides live racing) on the channel.
Perhaps the problem lies in that the production team is maybe a bit too passionate about racing. More time with their faces in a form guide and not enough time on production.... Shaheen often refers to the production team betting on races...
Just a thought.......

Forgot the point - more income better quality broadcasts whether that be in content or picture quality.
