MY FAVOURITE BET TYPE IS:
16 years 5 months ago
I have always shown good profits from Quartets and structure my bets as per follows: A,B/A,B,C,D/A,B,C,D,E,F/FIELD ,i reason that if i fancy something strongly then i take that and the biggest rival to win(irrespective of price).I then add two horses for second and a further two for third and ALWAYS take field for fourth.I only play the quartet after the canter past.It has been a wonderful bet for me.Recently i have started playing exacta's and am astounded at the big payouts...box three horses(once again purely on the way they move to post).Maybe the Clan can share their bet structures if they are worthwhile.

Putting my life on a money on shot and watching it fall at the last always gives me a high! or a funny type of feeling, that's hard to describe.
Have not played an exotic for 2 years!

I look at it differently and dont touch odds on bets.I will rather risk R1000 to win say R6 OR R7K instead of risking R1000 to win R800..I will use an odds on in a double but then i really have to like it.

Presenter, does that also mean that you don't play said bet when there's an odds on shot - or a cpl of short ones?

Basically ,there is always a relatively short priced favourite ,even if it is 18/10 for example..if he is the one to beat on form and after viewing them going to post ,he will be taken for first with the biggest danger,so i dont brass him but actually hope he runs out of it and the 'danger' wins.I cant afford to take a full unit bet and spend approx R200 ON THE BET FOR A FRACTIONAL UNIT,and mostly receive between 27%--33% depending on the size of the field(4TH PLACE).The best venue is Port Elizabeth where you mostly get a fast run, decent pace and outsiders(MOVED WELL TO START) fly up into the places and the quartets pay well..seldom less than R3000..and many over 20k.I will rather play 5 quartets at R200 on the day than put my grand on a 2/1 favourite.I have been using this"system" for several years and am in front..ALWAYS,ALWAYS take your fancy for first irrespective of price because if it arrives the payout is big.Why study form if you not prepared to back your fancies ? I WILL RATHER GO OUT WITH MY OWN FANCY THAN SOMEONE ELSE'S TIP.
Hope it makes sense and helps..it does work.

Cheers for the explanation.
I personally like a "Lucky 15" the most. As one 3/1 winner gets 2/3rds of your stake back!
Plus, you can turn a £2quid (£30) into a about a grand with 4 x 7/2 winners!

My 'serious' betting is exclusively on sport. Tournaments are the best as you only need to try and find a longer priced 'runner' who will progress to the later phases. Tournaments often allow you the opportunity to make a few mistakes and still 'get out'.
I will use the 2007 Rugby World Cup as my example ;
I identified France as my play. I started off with R1 million of 'stock'. After they lost their opening match I continued building my book as they drifted from 4/1 to about 20/1.
The crucial match was NZ at the Millenium Stadium. Happily for me France won and shortened from 20/1 to 15/10. I then 'sold off' enough stock so as to reverse my position to read as follows :
If France had won the World Cup I collected R2 million.
If France did not win the World Cup I collected R50,000.
I had no liability.
I could have laid off more to earn more in the event of France not winning but, to be frank, I rather liked the idea of a big win so the R50k consolation was fine by me.
I bet on horses only 'for fun' as there is an almost limitless number of variables which could/will scupper me. I do not play exotics at all but structure my winning bets as follows :
If I identify 3 horses which I believe can win I will have a substantial bet on the biggest priced of the three and then cover on the other two.
As an example :
A is priced at 5/2
B is priced at 6/1
C is priced at 12/1
Typically I might take R 5000/400 on C, R 3000/480 on B and R1000/400 on A.
I leave all the odds on shots to my mate Scotia!
