A Great Fourth of July Weekend
Good morning all,
What a fantastic day of sport yesterday!
The 130th Hollywoodbets Durban July was another huge success and, importantly, it turned out to be a decent day for the punters.
I did feel a little sorry for Andrew Fortune in the July. He gave Wish List the perfect ride, but Richard Fourie was simply outstanding aboard Note To Self. Congratulations to Justin Snaith, his team and the owners on a memorable one-two in South Africa's biggest race.
We were offered some big prices on Buffalo Storm Cody and Clare Du Lune, but in the end the market got it right as the bookmakers made a comeback.
Elsewhere, the Springboks got the job done in style with a convincing 20+ point victory, while Scotland produced a fine win over Argentina.
Now we look ahead to another cracking weekend of sport.
I'm actually enjoying the rugby more than the football at the moment, although there's still plenty of World Cup action to come for our competition.
Brazil are in action today, while our English friends face another late night against Mexico in the heat.
And if you're looking for a great game to watch, Portugal vs Spain should be worth a trip to The Hangover!
Congratulations as well to all of our Durban July competition winners.
Across the pond, Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore landed the Coral Eclipse with the hugely impressive Constitution River. Ryan described him as one of the best horses he's ever ridden, and 9/10 was available before the race.
France remain favourites for the World Cup, while I'm hoping Calandagan can return to winning ways in today's feature race in France.
Back home, we have a small but competitive card at Turffontein. The exotic pools may be modest, but there are still some nice betting opportunities.
My fancies include:
Enflame to continue the good run for the Dawson stable.
Within Reach looks a likely winner.
Chronicle King has plenty of upside, although Errol Flynn also looks a horse with a bright future.
African Pride and Almond Sea are two of my favourite horses on the card, but I may just stick with African Pride.
Finally, here's one from Chicago to celebrate the Fourth of July! 🍾
Good punting everyone. 👍
