Bumping & Interference – Senior Jocks Support Joint Culpability

In an attempt to encourage jockeys to exercise greater prudency and care, and avoid incidents of bumping or interference, the Stipes will now treat any such incidents as a singular event, and the same penalty will apply to both riders involved. This was confirmed by NHA Executive Chief Stipendiary Steward Ryan Hutcheson, who told the Sporting Post on Sunday that the move was made with the input and support of senior jockeys, and would ultimately be to the benefit of all riders, and was intended to lead to fair and safer racing.“The playing field in terms of accountability is now levelled, and we have addressed the jockeys and look forward to their co-operation. Naturally where the individual jockey is clearly more to blame, or even the instigator, the traditional assessment policy would continue to apply,” added Hutcheson.

This is a great change!!!

lso like the idea of  X number of meeting bans not just a standard date range anymore.

Well, Mgudlwa's ride last week that brought Patel down is an example. A horse that finishes 20 & 50 lengths off the winner goes to the front no less. Then faulter's and he leaves it to run all over the show resulting in Patel coming down.

I fully understand that controlling a 500kg horse is not like a car but we watch week in and out, examples of jocks not keeping a straight line.

O'TENIKWA was very unlucky on Saturday however the jock went for a gap that closed. He wasn't in the gap he was going for the gap in the last 50m.... can you blame the winner? I don't think so
