Well here is some good news for the "punters" HELP!
Hi All,
As you are no doubt aware Vaal for tomorrow (Thursday 20 November) has been abandoned.
We are bring in races 1 to 4 of the Franch meeting at ENGHIEN and will use the TVL key for that.
Regards
Mel

With no local racing to initially bring the punters in it will be interesting to see what the size of the overseas pools will be. My money would be on them being down.

PHUMELELA MEDIA RELEASE
SUBJECT: Vaal meeting called off
DATE: Wednesday 17 November 2008
RELEASED BY: Phumelela Gaming and Leisure Limited
Please note that the race meeting scheduled for Vaal Racecourse tomorrow (Thursday), the first leg of the Work Riders’ Challenge, has been called off due to a waterlogged turf track.
The meeting was not moved to the sand track as five of the races carded to be run down the turf straight would have had to take place round the turn. Unfortunately, only work riders who have passed the advanced training course are eligible to ride in races round the bend and that would have resulted in a significant number of horses being withdrawn.
For the same reason the meeting could not be moved to the inside track at Turffontein as all the races would have been around the turn.
The standside track at Turffontein was not considered as an alternative because the track needs to be preserved in order to provide the best possible racing surface at the Steinhoff International Summer Cup race meeting on Saturday 29 November. There has been more 100m of rain at Turffontein in the last 10 days and there is a meeting scheduled on the standside track on Sunday.
In order to compensate for the lost Vaal meeting, there will now be betting on the full seven-race card at Hereford in the UK tomorrow with a Jackpot on Races 4 to 7.
There will also be betting on Races 1 to 4 for the French meeting at Enghien, with a Jackpot starting on Race 1.

100m of rain !!!! No wonder the meeting is cancelled. Course and buildings must all be under water.
I agree Nagboy they will save money in the short term but the damage is long term with the loss of punters who are not interested in harness racing from Dingo Park ( with accolades to Magiclips who coined this beaut). They want to see and bet on local racing, the rest is just a sideshow.
