why dont bookmakers offer prices on interbet antepost, its 2 and half hours before the first and as an interbet account holder you cant get one cent on...what is their problem are they scared of getting caught at 150 percent betting odds ..

You have a point Pirates and have sent on to Interbet.
I normally put in a request, even if nothing in the on offer, and if I get "matched" the horse is on the drift, and if it stays, its shortened! lol.

I hate to be an apologist for bookmakers, but I guess I am.
Here's a fact, early betting only attracts business on hot horses.
If bookmaking was your business, I would have to tell you that %'s won't save you because you will not lay across the board and that opening early will only cost you.

KZN Bokkies seem to be fearless as they generally price up early and still survive. Its the P region that is slow on pricing up. Eastern Cape betting in particular.
Hollywood unlike other betting sites leaves betting up overnight. All others close betting until the next morning. Bets multiple and straight are limited to winnings of R10 000 with Hollywood though. Others offer bigger returns if you are prepared to wait until the next day.
Some may argue that Hollywood have encroached on intellectual property rights with the open bet(not so according to the courts) and should be rejected in betting circles but I am all for innovation and people that arent afraid to inovate to make money. Perhaps the P and GC could learn from these guys instead of just writing them off. I refer to Mr Attenboroughs comments that Bettingworld will never offer the open Bet. Perhaps a one stop shop is what people are looking for....
I would still be oblivious to the Hollywood debate if it were not for this site and comments made on You be the Judge and therefore would not be to concerned about where my rands were going.
I am afraid to say that in terms of betting practice in this country we need to reinvent the wheel.

there are many factors
by and large (spot the gross generalisation) SA bookies don't know how to price up and wouldn't know long run probability if it bit them in the arse
they have not figured out how to attract enough customers to fill the book
the quality and distribution of form is not adequate to enable punters to feel confident in the betting
the regulations which shape the way bookies have always operated are based on the assumption that a bookie is simply a punter who wants to lay a horse, and not with any regard to bookmaking as a service business
bookies (another generalisation) actively look to punt their customers bet-by-bet rather than allowing a book to build. this means no-one wants to be first and explains why claims are usually what kick starts the SA market.
to take scotia's example, it's often the knowledgeable customer looking to claim an early price that gives the bookie the best idea of price. this is ridiculous
there is no effective competitive tension in the SA betting market
SA is a difficult and diverse place in which to run a business that runs cheaper and more profitably the more customers you have

1. 35% of fav's get rolled - Including so-called 'wise' money
2. There may only be money for 2 or 3 in a race - present a book to cover
that = no worries + the field wins 2 - 3 times the cash!
3. No one forces a bookie to lay or punter to bet - BOTH can be selective.
If all else fails, Betfair - lol!
