What causes jockeys performance to fall off so dramatically

What would happen in a 12 month window to see a drop off.

.....Sly the Robert Khathi saga was well documented on this site.... got a 4 month suspension for so called hooking a Plattner horse in KZN....when he was simply trying to control and not fall off an unruly horse.....he finally won his appeal in the KZN Supreme court but still lost his job with the stable.....he seems to have fallen off the face of the earth....
