In fairness to the Cat noonoo, you should read his post carefully, he was actually being sarcastic to previous posters, that did not rate Lloyd, and if my memory serves me right, he is a big fav of the Gov?

Oh really, and the remark about the stupid sheep shaggers?????
all you lot do is slate everyone no one wants to see the greatness in those around
you
For those of you who are interested, J Lloyd and his trainer are reported to have said the ground was too hard for the horse and although a gallant 8th place it just did not suit his mount and it lacked its final burst.
Statistically though no horse has ever won the Melbourne Cup from draw one.

Hang on the noonoo "all you lot do is slate everyone"

Disagree with your statement totally.

This page alone has posts on Marcus,Melbourne Cup, Hollywood, Gallery. Competitions, Captains Lover etc, etc, mostly positive, informative and general views.

All that has been brought to your attention is that you may have misread the post from Catsmug, so I find your statement unfair.

have a good day

scotia

In fact just read the above post, it was all about the Melbourne Cup and good stuff.

Jeff is one of the best jockeys ever to come out of SA. Not everyone will like him as many have probably lost money on him. But if one was not to talk from their pockets and they were honest with themselves they would say that he is TOP CLASS.

He has proven himself all over the world and even came back this year to try and win the one race that has eluded him The July.

Unfortunately he will probably never been seen on our shores again but he will go down as one of South Africa's best.

Whilst I don't deny Jeff was a fantastic jockey most of the time and has forgotten what most jocks still have to learn he was often a frustrating jockey to back, especially when on a favourite. Im not talking about the big races as he was very much a big race jockey but I was always very wary of the Gov on a hot pot favourite.

Whilst I have not looked at the stats and am obviously open to correction it was just a feeling I had. I understand that plenty horses start very short in the betting when they shouldnt be and Lloyd was probably on more favourites than most jockeys in SA as he usually rode for top trainers. As a punter I obviously feel more confident with certain jockeys over others but for me there were just too many occasions when the Gov gave bad rides on favourites, based on his undoubted excellent ability.

I'm sure I will get castigated for my opinion but I wonder if there are any punters that feel this way...

obviously talking from your pocket of course, did you ever notice he had one of the highest strike rates over his entire career,I think in his 30 years of riding there was only about 8 years where his strike rate was less than 18%. not bad for someone who got beat on alot of favourites. Though I agree that he obviously rode many many horses that should never have been favourite in the first place.
