Race 1 :  Pistol Pete beat 2 cripples and a horse on crutches on debut , 5/10 not for me , will be with Addresthenation at the price
Race 2 : Emblem of the Sun , showed plenty speed on debut over 1200m , drop back to 1000m looks ideal,  will be with this one for an early double

Small fields except for the last 3 races and it does look pretty straight forward - thoughts ....

R1: Looks a match in 3 - I prefer Address the Nation to Pistol Pete, but the very expensive yearling Cymric has his supporters - does get 3 kgs from the winners, but perhaps would need more than 1000m ?

R2: Again hard to split Peace of Mind and You Bring Me Joy - Intro should beat Emblem of the Sun for 3rd imo

R3: Very moderate fillies - so the first-timers come into it - who knows ?

R4: Could be a trappy opening leg of the P6; I am including both the van Vuuren runners

R5: With the scratching of Dynamic Lass (would have been my first choice) it looks a match between Donna Mo and Volare E Mambo; Darling Harbour not sure what happened last time, but would have a chance on her penultimate, while as per the betting only Arctic Vixen needs to be added to make sure of survival

R6: Can't remember when last Race 6 was a Maiden - Marauding Horde odds-on - but less than a length between him and Force de Dieu last time - which leave me to think that Dark Silver should go close - but if the hottie does not win, any bar Ragamuffin must have some sort of chance

R7: Barbaresco just have to pitch to win this based on his very last good run behind behind Main Defender (where I think the Handicapper was lenient on him) - slight question about the 1600, but he did seem to run to the line over 1400; I think the under-rated Funky Music could chase B home with Silent War in 3rd; Just Nuisance improving steadily and could round off the Quartet

R8: Interesting sprint - stand-side draws have been beneficial, and I prefer Moonshiningthrough; I Am Giant looking to reward new owners Hollywood and must have a chance, while Aussenkehr now gets a 4kg claiming apprentice that should make him competitive from a stand-side draw

R9: Not an easy close imo; this race will show good Mid Winter Wind is (draw an advantage); I think Pontiac (again with the 4kg claiming apprentice) should be right there from a stand-side draw, while What a Tiger and There She Goes have been in good form and can't be ignored

Enjoy

Allow me to complain about the mediocre on-course presentation at Turffontein. Cecil seems a last resort live body assigned on course,  yes - good chap, knowledgable about racing through years of studio presentation, but awfully verbose.... Shalendra seems there to just read out the betting prices and pools. It sounds automaton, robotic and awful. Where is the authentic, real exchanges and engagement about the horses, happenings and insights? This seems canned and veneer.

Have to agree - why it needs to be emphasized that the BP Pool is struggling to reach R150k is beyond me - and the Cape presentation not much better (too many cooks ?) - no-one bothered to mention Snaith's (after-the-race-comment) that the first winner showed big improvement at home
