AT LAST a decent day for punters.

Good morning all and "At Last" the punters had a chance on Saturday.

Let's start with the Guineas meeting at Turffontien.

It was an excellent production with everyone playing their part to give the punters as much info as possible.

Bob was a nice winner for Easy in the second.
Gavin Lerena had a superb day with 4 winners and as expected Zeus gave Gavin a 10 from 10 record on this superb beast.
I still can't believe the bookies and "tote" were giving evens.
Race 5 was not exactly what we wanted and this was probably the field Race for the pick 6 but easier after the event.
The Guineas also went to plan with spectacular wins from Gimme A Nother and Sandringham Summit and they are now both money-on for the treble.
Unzen was also a good winner for Robbie Sage .

As far as overseas we had superb racing from Leopardstown where we did see Marine Nationale get beat, possibly a better jockey would have helped but the Hollywood horse IL ETAIT TEMPS won in a driving finish and will probably go for the Arkle at Cheltenham.
Marine stays top of the boards at 3/1 and I am sure the HW team will make the trip where their horse is around 7/1 joint second fav.
After yesterday's performance there is no doubt Galopin Des Champs remains the one to beat in the Gold Cup.

I forgot how exciting rugby was and I thought Scotland were a good punt at evens, for HT/FT.
At half time the Scots were playing like the All Black's.
I am not sure if we changed jerseys with the Welsh at half time but what another exciting 1 point win.

Banfana Banfana also managed to get to the next round in the Afcon with a superb performance from the keeper .

Have a wonderful week

Good Punting 👍

Here is an old classic from Etta James

Certainly good results again yesterday at Turffontien

Scotland were unlucky against French and they are playing well.
The games are all very close but Ireland look best.

Well done to Banfana

Yes Dave, a decent day for punters but not a result that tote punters would have enjoyed particularly. It is true that we as punters are rather fickle in nature. We moan when the outsiders win and so too when we win but end up making little or no money.

Yesterday was such a day with good results for those placing bets with bookmakers but exotic bet punters would have been seriously bleak after the days racing. It does happen so not a complete surprise when it does, but it's not a great advert for our sport when tough to win bets like the P6 ends up paying these types of dividends.

It's also a situation that will become more regular when field sizes are reduced to what we saw yesterday and which is more and more the order of the day and unlikely to change positively soon.

In these times it is imperative to have bet types that will ensure better quality exotic dividends to make betting on the tote more attractive and worth while to those committing their hard earned cash. Yesterday our Scoreline product would have ensured dividends of many thousands on the same results to a few winners.

Better designed bets and growing the customer base are essentials that go hand in hand towards improving racing's outlook with the long term benefits of better stake money on higher tote turnover providing the lead to bigger, more competitive fields.

This is pure economics at work and if left unattended will see racing suffering fewer race days and ever dwindling field sizes. Not a situation that SA racing should be proud of.
