Some Lessons from Kings Plate Day

1. Charles Dickens is our best current  miler. The big question is will he have a go at the Met? The connections have nothing to lose so I think that they will have a go. There won’t be much between him and See It Again although a preference for the latter over the trip.
2. The handicappers have a conundrum. In my view, both Al Muthana and See It Again ran way below their ratings, and so, while taking nothing away from this scintillating win, Charles did not need to run to his rating either. Royal Aussie is the logical line horse, and thus CD ran 126. Montien had run 113 last time but could only be given 105, and he ran a cracker here and should go to 116. The proximity of no hoper Cosmic Highway less than 6L behind the winner supports this interpretation. Clearly, the Green Point was overrated by the official handicapper and At My Command should not have been given 124. He proved that on Saturday. The problem was that all the top runners in that race were underdone as it was their prep run.
3. The Cape 3yo colts were well beaten and at this stage do not look a vintage bunch, but it’s early days.
4. Similarly, Princess Calla did not run anywhere near her rating and we can’t get too excited about the 3yo fillies yet either. Happy Chance and Love is a Rose are well exposed 4yo’s who ran to their relative ratings 10 points apart.

Agree 100% about CD....

BEACH BOMB once again ran excellent sectionals and with improvement to come will only get better and better.

I will address this horse when doing The sectionals of the race...but ROYAL AUSSIE is the horse to follow in the future(if they apply hold up tactics!!!!) His sectionals and especially FINISHING SPEEDS were on par with that of CD....and next Tim things will be alot closer. I would Defnitely go to the CAPEMET with RA....although I'm not sure,on pedigree, if he gets the trip
