# Turffontein Standside Tuesday 12 December 2023 – Comments by David Thiselton

RACE 1

Preview: 5 JUDGEMENT DAY is by Just As Well out of London News four-time winner from 1200m to 1500m Case Stated and he can do better than last time in this uninspiring field. 6 WELL LOVED ran a fair race over 1600m last time and should appreciate the step up in trip. 8 PLAY WITH FIRE ran a fair race when stepped up to this triplast time 7 THREE BELLS has shown enough to be able to earn here. (David Thiselton 5-6-8-7)

RACE 2

Preview: 6 SHE’S A MIRACLE by Lancaster Bomber is a full-sister to the promising 93 merit rated Chocolate Bomb. 4 RING A LING is by Futura and is a half-sister to the much vaunted Amber Rock who was touched off by the superstar Lucky Lad on debut. 2 IT’S HER WAY is by Master Of My Fate and is a half-sister to Heirloom, who was prominent in 800m races last season. 3 KINDRED HEART is by Erupt out of Trippi one-time winner Kashmira (David Thiselton 6-4-2-3)

RACE 3

Preview: 4 GUERILLA WARFARE ran a cracker on debut and is the one to beat. 1 ADDRESS THE NATION is by One World out of a ten time-winning Pathfork mare 3 FIRE ATTACK has just a length to find on Guerilla Warfare 6 READY SET FIRE is by Pomodoro out of Toreador mare Jackodore who won the Gr 2 Merchants over 1160m among nine wins (David Thiselton 4-1-3-6)

RACE 4

Preview: 12 ROSSORE FINALE ran two crackers as a juvenile and can do well here despite a six month layoff, but he does have a tough draw to overcome and might need it. 14 STORM BRASCO improved second time out over 1450m and should improve again, but he does have a tricky draw. 3 FEEL ALL RIGHT beat Storm Brasco last time they met and has faced some good sorts without being disgraced but he does have a tough draw. 1 PUERTO PLATA has the ability to get a place from a good draw here. (David Thiselton 12-14-3-1)

RACE 5

Preview: 12 MARIESKOP is by Gold Standard out of the Jet Master Gr 1 winner Stratos and she is a half-sister to the like of the ultra talented but quirky Orpheus (Oratorio). 10 BEATING WINGS ran a good third on debut and can build on it. 11 HIGGLEDY PIGGLEDY has run two fair races and could still improve. 13 SILKY JET has run two good races in KZM and will be distance suited but does have a tough draw. (David Thiselton 12-10-11-13)

RACE 6

Preview: 3 MERIDIUS has a fine turn of foot and is ideally distance suited and a wide draw hasn’t bothered him in the past because he relaxes well wherever he is. 4 GILDED BUTTERFLY has a lot of talent and is hard to beat on her day and she should have come on from her last start but this is her second run after a layoff. 6 SAVANNAH STORM burst through to win impressively last time over 1400m and he is effective over this trip too. 7 CRIMSON KING has been in good form recently and will be effective over this trip. (David Thiselton 3-4-6-7)

RACE 7

Preview: 2 BATTLEGROUND is a promising stayer and he should go close from pole position with Fourie up. 1 FLYING BULL is a useful stayer too but is 2kg worse off with Battleground after beating him by 1,75 lengths the last time they met. 4 ABSOLUTE VALUE is a consistent stayer and should be right there. 3 ARLINGTON ACTION is a capable stayer and will enjoy the recent rains as he goes well on soft ground. (David Thiselton 2-1-4-3)

RACE 8

Preview: 5 CARE TAKER looked a picture last time and duly ran a cracker over this course and distance and he has another fair draw. 2 WYZEACT is in good form and should have come on from his last run and he showed on debut he liked this trip and he has a fair draw of six. 1 TAEGAN’S CHAMP looks to be promising but was awarded a tough merit rating of 93 and has a tricky draw. 6 REAL RELIEF is drawn in pole and has the form over this distance to go close. (David Thiselton 5-2-1-6)

Had a bit rain but sun is shining so hopefully a gogo

Decent card

Judgment day it's a grooms race but Peter trains

Melech is a good sort and the owner deserves winners👍

On the subject of big owners
I spoke with the owner of Teagans Champ and Wyzeact yesterday and BOTH are exceptionally well .
The Champ could be a Champ but maybe the exacta ....

Good Punting 👍

Don't think this is at easy as it looks - competitive racing mostly - even the bombs in the last give weight away - so not that straight-forward imo

We have Crimson King in race 6. He is fit and well. This is a bit sharp for him, but if there is a solid pace he can be involved in the finish. Tough race where the fillies get a useful allowance

....Race 6 very tough indeed a few more than PdB's that may need further but if the track is still a bit sticky . that and others may prefer it too....initially liked Oscar's horse too on its run to PM.... but the track conditions may not be in its favour.....think I will go very wide....or give it a total miss....

Poor programming to have two juvenile races with no/limited form to start the PA and P6...only helps those in the know and not the punters that fund the show...

The planners are terrible, unless they are setting races up for mates

PS very surprised Peter's and Spies had no babies running

Especially Peters heard he had a few early bombs
