Class Races??
1 year 6 months ago
Anyone can help me understand what are these Class 1 2 3 4 races in Kenilworth? Seeing them for the first time, and seems unique to Cape?
Thanks

They are just handicaps where the class indicates where the benchmark MR fits:
Class 1 open handicap
Class 2 60kg = MR 110
Class 3 MR 94
Class 4 MR 78
Class 1 open handicap
Class 2 60kg = MR 110
Class 3 MR 94
Class 4 MR 78

Thanks Peter. How are they different from just calling the race a MR110, for example? Anything to look out for in terms of horses being well weighted?

No, just handicaps with normal WFA adjustments.
The Class B Stakes and Class C Stakes have weights in MR bands, and sex allowance for fillies, so are handicaps with a twist.
