Landslide Reversal?

Morning all, as we have another super weekend to look forward to as far as local racing is concerned.

I am sure we all felt racing was moving into a "Landslide" around a year ago?

To ease our concerns we had Hollywood and WSB as major sponsors and in addition a very generous injection from Mary Slack, Lawrence Wernars (Sudio 88) all making substantial contributions to assist 4RACING. However it was probably still a concern as to where racing was heading?

Recently we've had the added input from Betways Johnathan Blumberg and Greg Bortz at Cape Racing adding another massive boost to the sport.

Touching on the Summer Cup where by all accounts we had a positive vibe and a wonderful raceday experience for many.

We have to congratulate Betway for coming to the party in a big way .

My IT chap informed me that we actually had more hits/views for the Summer Cup than for the July day.

Unfortunately however, this was probably attributed to the NHRA/PETER saga.

Much of the positive uplifting of racing continues to be damaged by people that should know better.

Apart from the results we have to hope we are on an upward slope to avoid the Landslide.

Not withstanding the generous sponsorships we've had from these turf accounts we still get the choice as punters to take :

The best odds, 6% Tax paid, 15% bonus incentives and price boosts.

At the end of the day we need the winners as some serious damage was done to a few heavy punters last weekend.

Still on the subject of super sponsorship we have another WSB day on Saturday.

Racing returns to Hollywood Kenilworth and we've had some glowing reports of the progress made to date with more to come before the MET - exciting stuff!!

The highlight should be the WSB Green Point Stakes and as you know, I like my hotties and Equinox was a 4/10 shot last weekend but IMO Charles Dickens is not a 4/10 shot. I will be punting Princess Calla which I think may be a better option using a 30%/70% win/place ratio.

Overseas we have a big meeting from Geordieland and it will be icy cold .

Constitution Hill (take any 4/10) should be in action in the Fighting Fifth and we hope for a clear hassle free round of jumping on its way to another Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham.

Shishkin might also run in the Rehersal Chase and hopefully he decides to actually run this time.

After last Saturday Mrs S thinks I must take a break from racing pressure and in frustration decided to book tickets for the show "A Tribute to Fleetwood Mac" as she knows music is my other passion and it's also cheaper than racing...

They truly are one of the greatest bands and " Landslide"  is one of my favourite tracks based on their many ups and downs during an amazing career.

I had to take the car back to Pretoria for a quote after the hail damage in Kylami. It can only be repaired in the New Year, which I suppose with the festive season in the offing, makes sense.

Just to touch on the news.

Load Shedding understandably is possibility going to lead to more jobs losses as international companies fire a warning but nothing really phases the ANC.

Transportation causing major concerns as Infrastructure and service deliveries continue to deteriorate.

On a lighter note!

I was listening to a Judge trying to reprimand fighting in his court and told the guilty parties "to stop acting like members of Parliament "

Brilliant 👏

Good Punting 👍

Saturday morning update

Good morning all, we are boiling in SA and our friends are freezing in Scotland.

The sad news is that Newcastle is frozen off but Constitution Hill will run next week.

At this stage Doncaster, Newbury and Bangor on Dee plus Fairyhouse in Ireland are options.

Personal Ambition and Act of Authority is my double for the day except the normal JWB later at the show 🥳

Well done again to Hollywood having a winner in Ireland and a dream of a Cheltenham runner in March 🙏

Don't forget another HW horse runs today at Fairyhouse, the well named Gust of Wind and should go close.

Ballyburn the banker at the Irish track.

As far as the local card we look forward to a return to the new look Kenilworth where a pick 6 carry over is up for grabs.

We can hope for no surprises from the NHRA this week to put a damper on proceedings.

I hope you took the ew on Princess Calla at 7/1 although still difficult to beat Charles and See It Again.

We can't leave Richard Fourie out of any calculations.

October Morn and One Way Traffic potential bankers on what should be a spectacular day's racing.

It's almost Christmas so be nice to each other.

Good Punting 👍

Subject: FW: I think I'm in trouble 😕

Subject: I think I'm in trouble 😕

Good morning and the weekend is almost over.

More hectic results from the new look Kenilworth.

Well done to See It Again and the Strydom/Robert's combination 👏

Wonderful race and interviews.

Ok I was stunned that Princess Calla did not place and another impossible pick 6 😢

Also, me keeping away from racing did not prove very cost effective. 😖

Mrs S did get the tickets for the Fleetwood Mac show as I assured her the venue is quite close approx 15 mins away .

When we'd been in the Uber for about 45 mins and actually crossed the border into North West Province I could see she was becoming quite angry.

On arrival the owner suggested we book an Uber for after the show as it's difficult to get Uber drivers to come out to the venue as it's so far away. 😵‍💫 She then started to

panic and fret about how we would get home. In the end she pre-booked an Uber Go something we haven't done before. It worked like a charm our lift was waiting for us as we stepped into the car park. The driver was super efficient and very pleasant to boot.🙏

Meantime I knew I was in trouble so just increased my intake to numb the pain .

The show was decent but not a patch on the Barry Thompson tribute we had previously seen in KZN .

The menu was quite good and I chose bacon bits for the starter which was the highlight of the meal.

So the bottom line is that I am still in trouble and considering my losing bets, cost of Ubers, meal and drinks 🍸 it was a double whammy.

Good or no Punting?

Stick to your UK racing Dave.
The new Kenilworth however good it may be has been terrible to punters so far.
Give me a crap track with decent results rather than a flash track with favoured horses running below par.

Durbs, some of us are Racing Fans before punters, but I do also understand.

PS
I'm sure you are also a fan. Did Charles Dickens traveling like a superstar before blowing up, not excite you for the upcoming King's Plate?

Bob my home track is Greyville.I don't even go there any more. It's really not fun watching some of these battlers run.
Some should not be on a racetrack and watching these poor animals try race is no fun at all.

Was that a fitness issue?
If so it's not the horses fault.
If you want to study form you have to count on the horse coming to the track fit or it's just a worthless piece of paper isn't it.

When I was a lightie I used to walk to Greyville, about 4km,after school on a Wednesday to go watch the horses.Go into the gold ring to save the R5 entrance fee so I could have a punt.Sit on the wall were the bookies where and jump over into the main stand when the horses where finishing the race as everybody was watching the horses and wouldn't see me jumping over.
I loved horse racing and would never have thought I would ever stop punting on our racing.
I'm not a big punter and always played what I could afford so it's not about saving money or anything.
My ballie used to come back with back pockets full of money plenty times just by following the big punters in the ring taking bets with the bookies.Nowadays all he plays are PA's.Those okes used to put plenty down and often got it right with their information.
My interest is just not the same and racing needs the old punter to stay as not many new ones will enter the game with all the other stuff they can do with their money these days.

You must still be a youngster Durbs. In SA the authorities allowed admittance for the under 18’s only from about 1999.

In the old Rhodesia there was no such ruling.

No. I went the race course, Clairwood Park, for the first time in 1992. I was 14 at the time. I went for my first July in 1995, was in Standard 9 then.
