NATIONAL COLOUR, RETIRED!

STAR South African sprinter National Colour, blistering winner in Dubai before performing with credit in Britain this term, has been retired and will be sold at auction in Europe later this year.

Following three successive Grade 1 victories in her homeland - the Computaform Sprint, the SA Fillies Sprint and the Mercury Sprint - blistering six-year-old grey daughter of National Assembly was shipped to Dubai.

On her debut at the 2007 carnival, she put up a scintillating display to win a 5f event on the sand, where she won on her debut in a 5f event on dirt at the 2007 carnival for trainer Sean Tarry.

National Colour started among the favourites for the Dubai Golden Shaheen on her next start but was injured in the race and did not reappear for more than 12 months until Royal Ascot this year.
Having finished sixth in the King's Stand, she went on to finish second to Borderlescott in the rescheduled Nunthorpe at Newmarket this summer before ending her career when unplaced in the Prix de l'Abbaye.

“National Colour retires with dignity,'' said Tarry. “She's had a magnificent career - she did the stable and owner Chris van Niekerk very proud and gave us plenty of moments to treasure.

“Despite setbacks and sheer bad luck she performed creditably racing against the best in Europe.''
