Weekend Hussler trainer
targets Dubai

AUSSIE superstar Weekend Hussler is being lined up for a trip to Dubai after connections ruled him out of the remainder of the Melbourne spring carnival.

The seven-time Group 1 winner, down the field behind All The Good in Saturday's Caulfield Cup, is likely to be targeted at the Dubai Duty Free on the World Cup card on March 28.

Trainer Ross McDonald confirmed Weekend Hussler would be rested after he failed to stay the 1m4f at Caulfield - but he refuted claims the four-year-old was injured when finishing 12th to All The Good.

McDonald said: "He knew he'd had a run, that's for sure, but within half an hour of the race he was fine. There was nothing wrong with him other than a little rash which came up around his back and shoulders."

Stewards noted Weekend Hussler was slightly lame on his off-foreleg, had a bout of thumps (similar to hiccups), and a skin allergy.

The trainer said he had learned plenty about his star on Saturday, adding: "He can't stay, we know that now. But we now have a good idea of what races to target and there's thatnice race in Dubai in March. He might even head over there early and run in a lead-up race."
