Time of the Season

Good morning all as we head for another sporting weekend.

As far as the weather and climate change go,

we certainly are having some tragic disasters on the planet.

Floods, earthquake, tornadoes etc

Many lives have been lost and many left homeless.

Our thoughts and prayers are with them 🙏

It does not remove our own challenges but maybe it puts them in more perspective. However our disasters are self inflicted and not natural.

The power situation appears to be getting worse, notwithstanding the adoption of solar by thousands.

Looking forward to the weekends racing,

we have the St Leger from Doncaster.

The St Leger is the oldest classic and the last leg of the triple crown ( Guineas/Derby or Oaks) the last winner was NIJINSKY when I was a young punter in 1970.

As far as the next few days at Doncaster is concerned the going is soft/heavy.

A daily update will be on the site.

Some of the highlights are as follows:

Coltrane vs Trueshan

The BETFRED St Leger

Frankie must decide between Gregory or Arrest

Continuous and Desert Hero, for the King are also in the equation.

Our local options:

The Vaal today

Fairview on Friday

Double header on Saturday with Turffontien and Durbanville.

Remember the Hollywood challenge.

We were having a discussion at the pub in regard to the popularity re the Summer Cup vs July vs Met.

I am aware Betway has given the Cup a massive injection and tickets are on sale.

It's not easy to compare but with the July we were discussing the fields a couple of months in advance.

Then George was trying to find accommodation and suitable flights and we actually battled to find a place in Umhalanga which is our stay of preference.

We wonder if people from KZN or the Cape are in the same position trying to find accommodation near Turffontien and booking flights?

It would help if there was advanced indications of the runners or an ante post market.

Let's not forget the Rugby where again we have many mismatched games and only the handicap gives us options, I feel we can punt a few underdogs this weekend for example:

France vs Uruguay +52.5

NZ vs Namibia +71.5

Samoa vs Chile +33.5

Wales vs Portugal +30.5

Ireland vs Tonga +35.5

SA vs Romania +69.5

Australia vs Fiji +7.5

England vs Japan +21.5

The bookies have been fairly accurate up to this stage but I feel with a few team changes and the underdogs showing decent skills e.g.

Romania +69.5 and Japan +21.5 may be worth considering.

And what about Aiden Obrien having 4000 winners!

He is such a pleasant humble man and still has an even better future with numerous stars in the stable.

He has the favourites for next years classics, City of Troy and Henry Longfellow.

Breeders Cup nominations should be interesting.

Let's not forget the Irish jump genius Willie Mullins has a big chance to win the Melbourne Cup with Vauban.

The jump season is around the corner and will Constitution Hill try the fences? He is 7/10 for Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham in March and Galopin Des Champs is the hot Gold Cup fav but we will discuss this at a later stage.

Back to the title of this communication, as we experience all these changes in temperature.
It's The Time of the Season.

It's an old track from the Zombies which we could all become when artificial intelligence kicks in .

Good Punting
