Merit Ratings - Fundi's please help.
1 year 9 months ago
As most who know me will be aware I do not believe in or give much credence to merit ratings..... but I would really like someone to clarify the Tipsy Tina rating.
Most horses are adjusted within a few runs .... Tipsy to my mind is clearly racing off too high an MR,.... why am I wrong?

i would think that the 1200m counts for nothing as she is not a `1200m horse.. then the 1000m she came back TIPSY TINA – scalp wound right hind & coughing so that does not count and it was also yielding first time so you cant use that run

On the 3rd March run I do not have it as yielding.... Mr H which publication shows that? On Formgrids it also shows as 'Good'

Formgrids confirmed in the preview by Ziets and Nadine in the Fairview thread today . Not 3rd of March 28th of July..3 of March has no bearing at all as her rating was raised after the run behind Phedra on the 26th May

In the Milkwood she earned the 93. at level weights bar weight allowance.
the 3rd horse was moved up to an 89 from 81
The 4th horse up to an 87 from 82.
Now the wait till her rating comes down or she runs to that rating again.

What confuses me is that almost every other runner in that race had their MR adjusted downwards after their last run.... or am I reading that incorrectly?
Tipsy ran two races as an 81 unplaced, then ran 'above' herself once and got smacked 12 ... and has been diabolical thereafter. As a non MR person just looking at that I would say...' Ok, that run I smacked her 12 mr's was an anomaly....' and adjust a few down after each poor run ....

The racing on 26th May I think was switched to the poly, and all the CT raiders ran below best. Phedra trotted in, and Tipsy Tina ran above her previous form in second, but the form of that race, apart from Phedra herself, is suspect. However, our handicappers very seldom will admit to an error, and so the poor thing will eventually get back to her correct rating after the long suffering owner has paid another year's keep.
