Chris an exract from one of my many posts.

Quote:

After the Phumelela/Jooste saga

I used songs on the site as an illustration of what we could do in this regard eg "Let's Work Together", "We can Work it Out" , "The Long and Winding road". My feeling is that the best way for racing to survive is to minimize our power struggles and egos and make SA horse racing the priority.

I am now convinced that this will not happen at least in my lifetime as there are too many different agendas out there and power struggles continue.

Dave, the people who ran TAB Transvaal in the 80's and 90's where called every name under the sun when they even brought up amalgamation..... this will never happen, especially with the private equity now running both Cape and highveld racing.

Gregory is to be commended for what he is doing in the Cape but make no mistake, this is a losing sum wager all the way across the board, in its current iterations.

Chris yep agree.

I like the fact that the operators are in competition with each other now to be honest. They will both have to up their games and Greg in CT has started and I know 4 Racing are also uping the ante and this is great for racing. If you look at it from a positive viewpoint it’s great.

One umbrella would mean fewer executive salaries... So it will never happen

Bob, if you look how any large business operates on this planet, their main concern is salaries and the reduction thereof.
For these individuals, in my mind, it isn't so much about salaries but about control. They know best about what their jurisdictions want, they know best about what their horse men and women want..... same old tired story.

I really how the Cape becomes the next stronghold of SA racing just like Johannesburg was 30 years ago. There is passion and foresight there, unlike what is happening up country.

Chris, it feels that racing has been kept going by the executives.. Robbing Paul to pay Peter for years

And IMO there was never an end goal. One umbrella makes sense but will never happen
