Trainer AC Greeff was charged with a contravention of Rule 73.2.3 in that he was the Trainer responsible for HEATHCLIFF when a specimen which was collected from this horse prior to the running of Race 6 on 28 July 2023 disclosed upon analysis the presence of Flunixin (Class 4) which is a prohibited substance. Trainer AC Greeff signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R60 000,00. In determining penalty, the Stewards took into account the status of the race, HEATHCLIFF’s finishing position, the level of the substance and Trainer AC Greeff’s previous record with regards to contraventions of this rule. Furthermore HEATHCLIFF, in terms of Rule 72.3.2, is disqualified from the above race.
