CAN O'BRIEN BREAK THE RECORD?
16 years 8 months ago
See home page!
Will he do it? or wont he do it? that is the question!
Facts: he has 21 winners and needs 4 more to break the record.
The odds say no at 8/11 and evens for a yes.[not sure to equal it]
So what's left?
Rip Van Winkle in the Dewhurst, Freemantle for the Racing Post? France Black Bear Island?
Septimus for the Melbourne Cup [I do fancy] ,plus we have Soldier of Fortune and Henrythenavigator in the States? many options and my answer would have to be NO!
What's your views and any other inputs on potential group ones available.

Could Septimus be another for O'Brien??
SEPTIMUS, ante-post favourite for the Emirates Melbourne Cup on November 4, has arrived in Australia after a gruelling 36-hour journey.
The Aidan O'Brien-trained stayer travelled from Dublin, to Heathrow airport, to Copenhagen, Sharjah and Singapore before arriving at Tullamarine.
He was one of seven international contenders who rolled into quarantine centre on Saturday, weary but unstressed.
Andrew Murphy, stable foreman for O'Brien, said Septimus "travelled really well" and showed no ill-effects from the arduous journey.
"The next 72 hours will tell, but on face value all is good," Murphy said.
O'Brien has also sent Honolulu and Alessandro Volta while also travelling was Yellowstone, trained by Jane Chapple-Hyam.
Dermot Weld, twice winner of the world's richest handicap with Vintage Crop and Media Puzzle, will try again with Profound Beauty. Also in the party was first French challenger to try to win the Cup, Varevees, trained byRichard Gibson. Book Of Music, from the Godolphin stable and a possible for the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, made up the party.

Here is an update from an Irish punter? on the Betfair Forum.

Britain
Dewhurst Stakes Newmarket
Champion Stakes Newmarket
Racing Post Trophy Doncaster
France
Critérium International Saint-Cloud
Critérium de Saint-Cloud Saint-Cloud
Italy
Gran Criterium San Siro
Gran Premio del Jockey Club San Siro
Premio Lydia Tesio Capannelle
Premio Roma Capannelle
USA
14 Breeders Cup Races
Japan
Japan Cup
Australia
Cox Plate
Melbourne Cup
Can anyone think of any others or are any of these wrong?

No racing in Italy
for second weekend
Aidan O'Brien : now has two less chances in his bid for the Group 1 record
Racing Post staff
IT is almost certain that there will be no racing in Italy again this weekend after the meeting between representatives of the government and members of the racing industry in Rome broke up on Thursday evening without any decisions being announced.
Early indications were that the strike, which has already halted all racing from Wednesday of last week onwards, will continue.
The Group 1 Gran Premio del Jockey Club and Gran Criterium at San Siro on Sunday, in both of which Aidan O'Brien had intended runners, will be lost.

Still a bit grey on the detail, but he is on 21? we had no racing in Italy, Rip Van Winkle bt, has to have 3 winners plus at the Breeders meeting plus win the Melbourne Cup, would say he has NO chance?
Any other details or price on offer, as the NO bet looks certain, plus you can always have a punt on Septimus to recover.

1/4 with William Hills not to break record
Friday
Santa Anita:
Breeders´ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf - Heart Shaped
Breeders´ Cup Filly & Mare Turf - Halfway To Heaven
Saturday
Doncaster
Racing Post Trophy - 6 entries
Santa Anita:
Breeders´ Cup Mile - US Ranger
Breeders´ Cup Juvenile Turf - Westphalia
Breeders´ Cup Turf - Soldier Of Fortune & Red Rock Canyon
Breeders´ Cup Classic - Duke Of Marmalade & Henrythenavigator
At my most optimistic I'd say Halfway To Heaven, Westphalia, Soldier of Fortune, Duke Of Marmalade/Henry and the RP Trophy could all deliver group 1 wins. Each alone is possible but all together looks very unlikely. If he got 3 from the weekend he would be doing extremely well. Then add in a possible Melbourne Cup win, he'd just need one other but I don't see it.

More from our Irish friends
Paw for Paw
I saw one firm had it as 1-4 NO, 11-4 Yes
Group 1's left .... I think are
Breeders’ Cup races
Cox Plate
Prix Du Royal Oak
Australian Derby
Criterium International
Premio Del Jockey Club
Melbourne Cup
Age Classic
Criterium de Saint Cloud
Japan Cup Turf, Japan Cup Dirt
Hong Kong Cup, Sprint, Mile, Vase
Could be a few more Grade 1's in the States - but I'm not too sure of those ...
