The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Durban on Friday, 26 August 2022, adjourned and resumed on Thursday, 6 October 2022, Trainer Garth B Puller was charged with a contravention of Rule 72.1.43. The particulars being that on 26 July 2022, Trainer Puller sent a What’s App voice recording (a social media platform), which could be reasonably construed to be either obscene, offensive, defamatory, racist, threatening, harassing, discriminating, sexist or abusive to a person involved in the Racing Industry.

Trainer Puller pleaded not guilty, but was found guilty of the charge.

The Inquiry Board, after careful deliberation, considered both the mitigating and aggravating factors and imposed a penalty of a fine of twenty thousand rand (R20 000), half of which is suspended for a period of two years, on condition that Trainer Puller is not found guilty of contravening a similar rule during this period.

Trainer Puller was given the Right of Appeal against both the finding and the penalty imposed.
