Dexamethasone commonly is used in horses to treat allergic reactions such as respiratory allergies, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hives, itching and inflammatory diseases including arthritis. Your veterinarian also may use dexamethasone in high doses in emergencies for anaphylactic reactions, spinal cord trauma or shock. The doses that are used in emergency medicine and the treatment of autoimmune diseases are considerably higher than the doses used under other circumstances. Dexamethasone is used topically to treat certain conditions of the skin and eyes. Preparations for topical use may include other active ingredients such as antibiotics, antifungals or miticides.

......Sly I initially also thought that this was the case but something the Goose told us years ago about eye and skin medication containing a strong cortosteriod that was getting trainers into trouble....only a more recent June 2022 internet entry that I c&p above lists dexamethasone as the major ingredient in many topical ointments which are used locally and eventually get into the bloodstream a while after the application.....

......further updates show that Flunixin which many positives have also attracted big fines is found in medication for treating colic....sadly trainers cannot keep or administer this medication ....and by the time a vet arrives it may then already be too late.....
