Usual competitive midweek meeting at the Vaal Classic - 9 races for a change - still not much rain to speak of and the track should be quick - thoughts ....
R1: Futurewolff overdue and should get it right today, unless the de Kock first-timer is better than average
R2: Classified Stakes, but these have been taking turns in beating each other, so any of the 7 could win; Sir Tallin has been running consistently, but goes further
R3: Otto Luyken good debut and with natural improvement should finish in front of King of Rome this time; many of the Tarry stable are coming back after a break and Future Pearl is said to be better over further, but winners did come from both his runs to date, so could be the fly in the ointment
R4: Handicap; I have been preaching Wolff's World for a while, and at the weights must have a good chance today from a neat draw with Striker up; Duke of Rain probably better over 1600 and has a chance with Ablaan, while Mcebisi also looks better over this trip and should be in the placing again
R5: Real trappy contest imo; San Quentin is my first pick, but may need a furlong further to show his best, while Silly Fella is always thereabouts, so chance again today; Secret Giver imo needs to do more from a wide draw, while both Mingshi and Fantasy Flower are not out of it on best form
R6: Good sprinters line up over the minimum trip, over which Master Archie is very effective and he is my first choice; however many of these are very capable over 1000, including Bartholdi, Godswood, Kwite a Trip and Naarah - while Vaseem needed his last start and gets the blinkers to sharpen him up - so many with chances
R7: Regally bred Good Queen Bess has not really set the tracks alight, but she must have a good chance here from pole position; main danger imo is Midnight Gem, from What a Honey; Emerald Princess and Lucy in the Sky probably better over slightly more ground nowadays, but could run the main protagonists down if they go too quick
R8: Looks a two-horse race; Rosenwind has her 2nd run after a break of almost a year, so probably not the soundest of fillies, but does look to have the measure of this field; Aga Heat a winner this track and trip, and may be good enough if Rosenwind does not stand up; Moonstrike back to her original stable and could be the danger
R9: Real minefield to close; Irrevocable Dream my first choice, but many needed if one is in the mood to take a gamble with the P6
Enjoy

Well Brandon says he wants to be there when Striker has his 5,500 - his wish could come true as it may be today
