The ARC without BAAEED
2 years 8 months ago - 2 years 8 months ago
Good morning/afternoon and evening due to load shedding, and I hope you are ready for the ARC this weekend.
The race is on Sunday from Longchamp in Paris at around 16.05 SA time.
The decision to run Baaeed in the Champion Stakes is probably the correct call but it has certainly taken a lot of sparkle from the greatest race on the planet.
It's a fairly open event this year with no stand out bet but enough horses with chances to make it an exciting race.
Just a reminder of some of the greats that have won the race in my punting lifetime.
Mill Reef, Dancing Brave, Zarkava, Sea the Stars and Enable come to mind.
Remember triple crown winner Nijinsky was beaten in the ARC
Possible winner this year:
Luxembourg
Alpinista
Torquator Tasso
Title holder
Vadeni
Westover
Mishriff
From my side I was going for the German horse Torquator Tasso who won the race last year at odds of 80/1.Frankie has the ride.
However after the draw I am going for;
Westover to win, Luxembourg to make it difficult and Frankie third with the outsider Broome an addition for big exotics.
Humble Tune runs on Friday and sorry again about its last run, it was a real shocker, he was examined and nothing was found but Bling said that 7 furlongs was now too sharp from him.
We have been running in very poor fields up North for poor prize money and not many suitable races available.
This has led us into a position to give PE a try before it becomes more competitive up North.
Candice sent a very healthy horse to Zietsman and although Fridays race does appear stronger we hope for a decent run in its new location.
The poly and distance could be of a concern?
I will actually leave stable comments to Ziets and Georgie the Greek to reduce me minimizing anymore financial damage to the punters.
In addition Great Scott runs on Saturday and its more an introduction to racing than a punt but I will be having a 150/1 ew double.
On the subject of better racing up North a good card is on offer this Saturday.
I look forward to seeing what the highly rated Desert Miracle can do.
As far as drama both locally and Internationally the fears and thoughts thread is very concerning.
If we remember the old Sam Cooke classic "A change is gonna come" we can only ask when ?
Good Punting

If Baaeed had remained in the field it would have been scratched due to track conditions.
Longchamp officials are prepared for very soft going for Sunday’s Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (3.05), although the degree of give in the ground will depend on whether the top estimate of 10mm of rain arrives on Saturday.

If you are at the track just remember
Having a bet
The first thing to know is that UK and Irish bookmakers are geo-blocked in France and so you won't be able to bet on your phone at the races if you don't have a French account with the PMU or another online operator.
There are a host of automated PMU terminals at Longchamp but you will probably find it easier to deal with a human being, either at a window (guichet) or with a roaming operator carrying a tablet.

By my estimation, Sea the Stars has been the best...put his races won against any other horse and it becomes less in dispute...other horses may have looked more impressive in winning but winning the best races should matter more...

You were probably a bit young but Mill Reef was very special 😉

We were a bit spoiled in that Era
Brigadier Gerard was the same year as Mill Reef and Brigadier was the best miler and mill Reef the best at mile and a half.
We always thought they would clash over a mile and a quarter but were kept apart.
Brigadier kept his unbeaten record think 16 or 17 until beaten by Roberto a previous Derby winner.
At same time Mill Reef won all the BIG races.
Gerard beat Mill in the 2000 gns .
This is all off the top of my head as around same time we had Sir Ivor and Nijinsky.
I had a wonderful upbringing 😁
Mill Reef was always my favourite

My profile picture from the inception of ABC has been Ribot. Ribot was undefeated in 16 starts and won 2 consecutive Arc's. He was bred by the legendary Frederic Tesio. Ribot is my all time favorite horse although way before I was born.
During my time, Zarkava, Sea The Stars, Treve and Enable have all been impressive. A special mention to the broodmare, Urban Sea, who won the Arc and then produced Sea The Stars who also won the Arc. Urban Sea is also the dam of Galileo.
