.....and sadly this whole debacle has become a hot potato.....if the intention was to try prevent woman from riding here....then a job well done....

......the timing and delivery of this announcement has caused more controversy and is highly detrimental to ever try encourage the fairer sex to want, seek to, or further any ambitions of becoming a jockey here....

you can give certain appies 4kg for the duration on their careers and they still won't make it - Far better to weed out the unnatural riders early instead of creating expensive workriders - A panel of former riders should asses appies after a certain amount of rides and either give them a technical pass or put them on notice - Just because you are small and love horses does not mean you can or should ride in races. Some 4kg claimers could stop Baaeed in a Greyville Maiden. With today's technology each appie should have a mentor(retired or presently riding senior rider) that can go through their replays and correct faults instead of forcing non-starters through the system. A MR 60 running in a Gr1 carrying 20kg less than the others is still a MR 60 and will run accordingly.

Some of these apprentices and or jockeys are ending in other countries has work riders. Also I see some of them have gone to the Summerhill College to further their knowledge in the equine field and now are working in other countries.

I think E Ngwane is in the UK at the moment but I do not see him riding.

they should also make a rule that only those that have passed matric can enter - why are they wasting time teaching these school kids.. an older person will be bigger and closer to adult height and weight and will not have the extra pressure of passing matric - the days of the workhouse are long past - I'm certain Rachel and Lyle had both passed matric when they joined so look at that as a formula to follow.

.....but remember that Rachel and Lyle never went to the academy directly.....they were both work riders....and then became apprentices under SAJA.....Lyle then did his apprenticeship at the SAJA facility at Randjies under Robert Moore....

the point is why are they wasting money on schooling these kids? you don't need 15yr olds riding races - let them mature both mentally and physically before you take them in(lots won't make it because natural weight gain will stop them thankfully).. i remember the cost i heard per appy training was a million rand - get rid of school and your cost drops and then all time dedicated to racing- imagine the pressure of studying plus riding and studying form - doctors lawyers etc finish school before starting careers why are horse riders different?

......because these days you aren't allowed to call a shovel a spade....do not know if things have changed since....but through the transformation drive the previously disadvantaged kids get full scholarships while the pale one's have to fork in...quite ironic that some of the pale ones had to become work riders because it was by far the more economical route....

instead of sex allowance there should be preferential entry for a horse in a daily Maiden if the trainer puts on a 4kg claimer - the more practice in races the better to gain skills or move on to another career

.....and I see a better path through going the work rider route just like Lyle and Rachel have done.....cant waste time and money on kids that are sh!t scared of horses but are sent to SAJA because the family is poor....kids that wanna ride horses must put their names down and get to work in stables during school holidays....I did it and so did my little brother next thing he and I were taking horses to work at the course 1st the easy ones and then it got harder....we did not have the strength to actually ride work....and nor were we gonna be jocks but f@ck okes that do that today actually get to ride in races....:S

i was reading somewhere that a similar allowance was offered to the female jockeys in the uk and they decided against it , surely this is a better way of doing it , leave the decision up to the respective riders
