"Hybrid" Stakes
3 years 1 month ago - 3 years 1 month ago
I see they are using this description in races the last few meetings
Anyone know the conditions? Has there been a presser explaining them?

Very similar to a Pinnacle- the horses are weighted in bands of 1.5kg (3MR points). The girls get an allowance of 3.5kg which is very generous.
Only the winner can be penalised 6 points max, placed horses no penalty.
There has been no communication that I'm aware of.
Basically they are handicaps with a little twist. In my opinion, just serves to confuse the average punter for no good reason.

It's 2.5kgs for fillies and mares. When the other poster, Neon, posted about Veronica Mars, I checked the pogramme to see the weight structure and came across an intended "Hybrid" race where the fillies and mares only get 2kgs for a 1000m Sprint. It could be distant dependent as well.

I wish we could just have genuine MR’s which are not smothered in smoke ‘n mirrors. If they want to favour a bias then give a weight allowance but don’t play with the MR.

Naresh, you are correct, it seems that the fillies allowance for these hybrids is distance dependant, ranging from 2kg at 1000m to 3.5kg at 1800m. Very peculiar as weight has more impact over the longer distances, so the allowance at 1800m is excessively favourable to the fillies.
