What will be will be /weekend racing
3 years 2 months ago - 3 years 2 months ago
Good morning all from a sunny Pretoria.
We are back from our trip and baby sitting duties in Kloof, it was a rather busy experience looking after two young lassies and a puppy but it keeps us young.😉well worth the trip.
Mrs S and myself celebrated our 48th wedding anniversary on the 29th March and can you believe that was only 4 years after Nijinsky won the triple crown.
On the subject of the triple crown and in SA we also have a triple tiara.
No disrespect to SA racing but it does appear to be a bit easier here than overseas to win this award.
It’s money on that we will have another triple tiara winner on Sat.
If I can just share a bit of history: In the States the triple crown is comprising of the Derby, Preakness and the Belmont and is run in Kentucky, Maryland and New York i.e in three different states.
The 1970s was a golden era for racing with Secritariat, Seattle Slew and Affirmed 1978 all winning. We then had a 37 year break before American Pharaoh won in 2015 followed by Justify in 2018.
As far as the UK and closer to my heart, the British triple crown is the 1000 gns, Oaks and St Leger for the fillies and the 2000 gns, Derby and St Leger for the colts, the last winner was Nijinsky in 1970 .
Camelot came close in 2012 running second in the St Leger and Sea The Stars went for the ARC instead.
Incidentally the only filly to win the triple crown as there is no tiara was Oh So Sharp in 1985 and that was after a 67 year break.
Getting back to local racing on Saturday it should be a great day and the appearance of Kommetdieding should guarantee a decent crowd.
Rain in Holland should lift the Tiara and the Derby should be a bit more competitive.
It’s the Scottish National from Ayr on Saturday and have gone for an ew on Cool Mix at 14/1.
Looking a bit further forward to the Grand National on the 9th April, I fancy Delta Work and Snow Leopardess .
30th of April is the 2000gns where Native Trial is at 3/1.
The 1000gns is on the first of May where INSPIRAL makes her anticipated return.
Getting back to my heading, the song goes back to the classic from Dorris Day, Que Sera Sera “what ever will be will be”
It doesn’t matter what we moan and complain about “what will be will be”
It’s pointless me increasing my blood pressure in connection with 4Racing, Masks ( latest news is we only need in the shower for AIDS and Covid) and Ukraine (still horrendous).
To quote the words of the song.
“When I was just a little girl, I asked my mother, what will I be”?
Must have been a nightmare for the Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner family.
Good Punting

The Triple Crown / Triple Tiara in SA is certainly not worthy of the title right now. That is most certainly true.

Yes Lionel
As they say the Kray Twins only got 25 years.
Have been in dog racing and horse racing for 55 years and the first date I took Sue was dog racing at Powderhall in Edinburgh and our first movie together was A Horse Named Nijinsky. 🐎

A mare. Must be a sign for Snow Leopardess.

A bit off the topic.
Although its a very old movie, National Velvet, with Elizabeth Taylor is definitely a watch if you are a Grand National fan.

Snow Leopardess has a chance to become the first mare in history to have a foal and go on to win the Grand National.
