INQUIRY – JOCKEY ANTON MARCUS

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Cape Town on 31 January 2022, Jockey Anton Marcus was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7. The particulars being that as the rider of DOUBLE SUPERLATIVE he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to UNIVERSAL and TRIP OF FORTUNE when he shifted outwards when insufficiently clear, leaving the 400m in Race 7, the Cape Guineas (Grade 1) at Kenilworth Racecourse on 18 December 2021.

Jockey Marcus pleaded guilty to the charge and was found guilty as charged.

The Inquiry Board, after considering all the factors stated in mitigation and aggravation, imposed a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for a period of eighteen (18) days.

Jockey Marcus has the Right of Appeal against the penalty imposed.

So there was interference to 2 horses but the stipes did or couldn't do anything likely because the way in which the rule is framed...trying to apply a subjective outcome (but for the interference would have finished in front of the horse causing the interference) to something objective (there was interference)...the stipes seem to get more wrong than right because of the way in which the rule is framed and allows kamikaze riders to do what they want with little consequence...

Double Superlative will go into the books as a Guineas winner but shouldn't have been allowed to keep the race even if it may prove to be the best horse in that race...
