After hearing the commentator in the 2nd at Newmarket call there was a 100 to go when the horses were at the 1 furlong pole, we cannot complain about our guys. Mistakes happen all over the world.

It shows that most punters, including those who are supposed to know it all, are unable to pick up when a race commentator makes a balls up.If you guys think his commentating was good then you are either partisan or have no clue.He is a professional. He should know his job. He should know that when a sign pole says 1 it does not mean 100 metres to ago. In the UK it means 200 metres to go or 1 furlong.Go on guys have a go at me,but, the truth is in the pudding.
The Uk public must have been laughing when he said 100 to go and ten seconds later he says 75 metres to go. When have you ever heard a commentator say 75 metres to go. Scotia try and get a copy of the race and commentary, it will show that you are wrong in your assesment. Try and be objective.

Consider your original post

"After hearing the commentator in the 2nd at Newmarket call there was a 100 to go when the horses were at the 1 furlong pole, we cannot complain about our guys. Mistakes happen all over the world"

You really need to get a proper life, post who you are and you may get a reply?

So what if he made a mistake with the distance, I have not been able to listen to a replay, but its hardly a major issue and when I heard it initially, felt he had done a good job.

have a wonderful day.

As Osbad has so correctly put it, I am not here to make friends or to influence people. This website has never made it obligatory to disclose who you are. It now appears that the owner of the website has a change of heart. Strange that the owner of this website has never before in a conversation asked a person to disclose their name and if they did not, an answer would not be given. The owner of the website has an idea of who I am or thinks he does. Until this website makes it official that you cannot post without disclosing your name, my name will not be made public.By the way my pseudonym is not a secret, there are several people who know who I am.My complaint is that I do not believe that I am obliged to disclose my name in public until the rules of the website change.I do not take kindly to stupid and disparaging remarks. My criticizm is 100% on the mark. I think that Scotia is just upset about being shown up that he has incorrectly said "....... and did an excellent job" when commentating. In terms of world and South African standards the mistakes made were of a juvenile commentator. On that display he would not have finished in the top 10 of the amateurs competition held in Durban weeks ago. Mistakes happen all over the world.I am sure that Clyde will acknowledge his error. The problem is with the people in horseracing in South Africa, like Scotia. There is no doubt that Shane Shaw has improved as a commentator. He still makes mistakes, but he is a relative newbie to the job. South African racegoers have criticized Shaws calling. Now that SA's number 1 guy makes an error on his overseas debut and whilst representing horseracing for his country, his calling remains "an excellent job". What hogwash is this? Are we all automotons who play "simple Simon"? It appears that on this website debate is welcome only if you tow the line or keep within acceptable boundaries. Shame on you.
