Champions Season ?
3 years 11 months ago
Now that all the buzz about the July meeting has gone, I checked to see what Gold Circus has in stall for us next - lo and behold, the next meeting of any substance is the Gold Cup Meeting on Saturday 31 July (4 whole weeks after the July - and here I thought it was 'Champions Season'
Also run on the day, is the Champions Cup - a race at set weights; now I know Rainbow Bridge ran below form in the July, but if all is back on track with him and he is entered, he will surely take a power of beating; I see that there is talk about running Got the Greenlight - don't think he can smell RB at level weights; interesting also is that there was talk before the July about Belgarion going over further - so maybe an entry in the Gold Cup ?
As far as Mac's darling She's a Keeper goes, I'm wondering where they will go next - I don't think there are any races for her in 'The Province' before Gold Cup day - maybe the Gold Bracelet is an option, but that's also a race a set weights, where I think she will have to carry an extra 1.5 kgs courtesy of her win in the 1900 - so that's not ideal as I would have thought that the connections are looking for handicap, where she can take advantage of her ridiculous rating dished out for her July run - I guess time will tell

Some years ago, the operators decided that lumping all the feature races for the season onto the few big days was a better idea than the tradition of a feature or two each week throughout the season. Not only does this make programming more difficult, it results in these dead weeks with mediocre racing between the big days. Personally, I much preferred it when the features were more spread out.

I think July Day saved Champions Season, the rest has been pass marks at most
There was such a Buzz, then horses started to be scratched (Summer Pudding, Malmoos, Captain`s Ransom etc) and it took away some of the anticipation
