Fixed odds place betting - we are getting ripped off

Have a look at Race 1 today. In a 15 horse field our fearless bookies are offering 14/10 a first 4 place on a 20/1 shot.

I agree - take the July - they are offering 1/18th of the winning odds for 6 places :ohmy:

What is the over-round on that place market? If the sum of the probabilities is about 440% then its normal and nothing greedy.

The place prices is also dependent on the price of the market leaders. The shorter the prices of the favorites, the weaker the fixed odds prices are.

Some bookies sites offer, each way. Its normally 0.2 or 0.25 off the actual price no matter what the price of the favorites even if they long odds on. Sometimes if you wager an each way on these sites you can end up with almost the same as taking a fixed place only compared to the other sites. And if it wins you get a big bonus as you wagered a win too!!!!
