The big question still remains
When do Betfred and 4Racing get their licenses from the often disjointed Gambling board ?
After that is it a fight to who will win the punters to increase turnover and increase the Stakes?
Hope I am wrong but don't see this arrangement being good for racing in general?
Sure the concept was "let's all work together "
It might be out there but what is the actual plan with Betfred and 4Racing.
Who has the tote, who has the bookmaker facilities, is it all on line, do they have walk in outlets, where do GC come in.
Open bet? ..........major factor.
Understand many questions but confused to the way forward for racing and the overall options and strategy.
Good Punting (if you know where).

I believe that Dave asks the most important question, 'What about the open bet'. Further to this will John Stuart and Rob Scott use their new platform to do better things for racing or to oppose the tote with all they have? Past actions and some comments about a vindictive nature in previous positions suggest the latter and that will make it very tough for racing to get the much needed benefit of working together.
In my opinion there is a massive battle looming but now is not the time to cut your nose to spite your face as everyone will be much better off and more profitable if the racing industry could be revived again.
The bottom line is that punters will get the benefit if the expected fight leads to real efforts to improve service and platforms and if a committed expansion drive ensues.
The current tote operators have a purer motive than any bookmaker with regards to funding the sport but the hard core punter will not support them unless it is truly beneficial to their pockets to do so.
The only way that the tote will overcome this looming war over the long term is to improve their product range by expanding into more punter friendly products that will clearly benefit both the existing and any potential future customers. Products and concepts that can deliver on this need already exist.
Betfred has the expertise to do a lot of damage and my past experience with them regarding the UK tote has not been very positive. I reached out to Mr Dunn directly to discuss new ideas for the tote and the silence was deafening. They have as little regard for racing as Phumelela had so I watch developments with interest and a lot of skepticism.
The tote has one major advantage in that pooling has the potential to deliver very large and attractive betting pools with the right products and this has to be exploited in future. The current products have limited scope to aid in expansionary growth, and almost none to deter the open bet, so much broader thinking has to be applied.
The open bet could be very successfully countered in a number of ways that would not require legal intervention or coercing and this course will have to be pursued if an amicable solution cannot be reached in the interest of racing.
I hope that sanity will prevail over ego's and bitterness and that racing will finally be able to move forward in a unified fashion.
