At least someone had the guts to appeal the crazy ratings dished out on Champions Day - will others follow suit ?

Second Base suppose to get 3kgs but will only get 2.5kgs due to minimum weight for a 3yo colt/gelding is 53kgs.

This is absolutely ridiculous. How is it possible for Got the green light to win 2 x Grade 1 races and not get a single point penalty for doing so? I dont care what the rules say this cannot be fair on the rest of the field and I say every owner with a runner in the July should feel aggrieved.

Ridiculous suggestion. What I would like is for Cape horses to have a relatively fair comparison to Gauteng horses. If an acceptable line horse can not be found then a fixed penalty for winning races according to grade. Without much thought maybe gr3 = 1 Gr2 =2 Gr1 =3. I know it has a Race figure type working but there can not be a horse coming into the countries top race having won 2 Gr1 and not getting any type of sanction for doing so. When comparing Got the green Lights MR to Golden Ducat and observing these two horses H2H races, this makes absolutely no sense and is unfair in the extreme

I do agree that Golden Ducat should be lower than GtG - but would argue that perhaps it is a case of GD being too high and not a case of GtG being too low

All the best Joey and GTG..... The best horse in the JULY last year that lost to a 4yr old at level weights by 0.85L, that's the system. Not that I agree with the system but that's what it is....

I agree with this.

I do however believe that "that's what it is" needs to be looked at and adjusted - we can not have our countries premier race favouring one over another. Perhaps we need to go WFA for Gr1 races.

I’ve made this point several times on this site and even on this thread, it’s really all confusing.

Frodo - Iam interested in why you have have questions about the 2200 for GtG. I also had doubts before the Kzn season last year but I must say that those have been completely dismissed.

He got the 2000 in the DN, was not stopping in a very hard run July last year and won a G1 2000 recently at Turffontein on sticky ground.

Dbn is a summer rainfall area so the going will be firm for the July, the distance won’t be an issue.

This is all very interesting to hear every year (x5) we have the same problems and arguments. Our very "clever handicapping panel " cant get it right time and time again, including all our "resident experts" don't see eye to eye most of the time. HOW can "Joe Soap" with his R10 have a bloody clue what's going on ? This system has to be flawed, this huge "grey area" opens up a huge can of worms for manipulation and to state the obvious, being very unfair. This is after all the basis by which we compete against each other.
Surely we have the brains to record and implement his system accurately? Wait.....this system is open to personal interpretation so how can it be accurate?
I must admit what I can say with 100% accuracy this system can kill a horses career from day one.

Cochrane, must admit in having same thoughts about GTG not getting home... He might be a stronger 4yo, but i feel he looked the winner last year and was outstayed?

Ito GtG staying - for the reasons Cochrane mentions, I do lean towards him staying, but in my mind there still is some doubt - as Bob says he looked a winner last year in the July and also in the Derby and did not quite get home
