Trainers comment was will need run.
Either someone out there knows more than the trainer or the horse suddenly didn't need the run a week after the computaform got the comments or the trainer is just bullshitting us as he wanted to get a price.
Either or it just doesn't give you much confidence about the integrity of our racing and these type of things definitely won't bring new punters or the older punters that have left back.

Was going to comment earlier, but didn't. The problem is commenting, in my opinion, because if the horse runs an indifferent race to what has been said, the trainer is on a hiding to nothing. There are ocassions where horses win at 33/1, 50/1, etc and on all track work back home, the horse has shown "nothing", these pop up, what can the trainer do?

I think the trainers comments are given in good faith, in the main, just my opinion.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

The thing here Bayern is that the horse was backed 5 times from 10-1 into 9-2.
If it won with no money on then yes it probably surprised the trainer but here we have a different scenario and the honesty has to be questioned I think.
Crap stakes make the trainers try all things to get some money for themselves and their connections.

I can guarantee you that there was not a cent of stable money on the horse. It was a complete surprise to the stable that firstly there was money for the horse, and secondly, that the horse won so well.

In that race there was little form - only Miss Magician with a decent debut run, a couple with moderate runs, and a bunch of first timers. The favourite ran second, and seems an ok filly, as the third horse was well beaten.
The dam of the winner was a smart filly, despite only winning one race- after her maiden she ran 3rd in both the Choice Carriers Gr 2 and the Cape Fillies Guineas Gr 1, and thereafter was screwed in handicaps.
The Tarry yard is struggling at the moment, so no surprise that there was a bit of money for the winner, and a couple of the others, to try to beat the favourite- there was also some support for both La Fille and Runaway Princess.
Owners will continue to be pleasantly surprised by their horses on debut even where no confidence given by the trainer. That’s how it goes.

Yeah watched the post race interview and Van Vuuren said he felt embarrassed that he couldn't give the owner the confidence.
But who backed this horse from 10 -1 into 9-2?
Doubt it would be someone off the street after reading the trainers comments.
The horse won well so either someone just liked the name and took a chance or got some sort of information that this horse was going to go close.
Really makes you wonder how a punter knew more than the person who trains the horse.
A bit of a dodgy game this on occasions.

Durbs, I have no view either way ( I know it looks fishy)

But it can be as little as an owner saying I have a “nice” horse running on Saturday

Then one or two faces taking a chance or taking the comment as a cryptic “ get on “

One thing for sure is that Horses can make a fool of us all, owners, trainers and punters 🤔
