Interesting card where I like a few - and the guys from Clocking the Gallop seem to conquer with most of my thinking - thoughts:
R1: I think it could be a rough start to the BP; favorite Look Yourself on times finished around 14 lengths behind the winner of the colts Juvenile race (Noble Striker) on the same day, and then NS finished 10 lengths behind next time out - so certainly beatable imo; first timer Pink Legacy would not have to be good to win this, but is not really finding much support in the market at this stage, so the value here is Silvette from a good draw (and she has come in to 5/1 from 10s yesterday); the rest seem unfancied, so hopefully the top 3 will suffice for the BP
R2: The money is for Blonde Act, but that finished behind Partner in Crime last time, so it's clear to me where the value lies - despite PiC having to cope with a widish draw; again hard to judge the de Kock first-timer, but he is drawn in pole position and like the one in the first, would not have to be too good to win this - again I'm including all 3 in the BP
R3: If ever a horse deserves the 'overdue to win' label, it has to be Castle Corner; and today must surely be his day - has pole position and is a stand-out on form; Flying Bull looks clearly 2nd best, while Enigma Code does look moderate, but did run 2nd over this track and trip and from a good draw should place
R4: Courtesy of the scratchings, it does look that Archer's Girl seems very hard to beat; if she does fluff her lines, others to consider could be the Houdalakis coupling and the improving Willow Lane - all of those have nice draws, while Stunning Kitten could also place, but has a wide draw to overcome
R5: Starting to look like a real favorite's day, with Royal Wulff on the up and looking hard to beat - does have a slightly wide draw to overcome, but he has been winning so easily since a gelding that he is definitely the one to beat; Reunion has yet to find the form that has seen him romped home for his Maiden win and has been dropped 6 points - still on a line through Bartholdi, he should in theory struggle to give Qunetra 7 kgs and a beating - Qunetra is an interesting runner imo - did beat Southern Song (a subsequent winner by more than 9 lengths in the Maidens) in his penultimate run and may not have enjoyed the soft conditions last time; not a lot between Valetorio and Foreign Field on their last meeting, but Valetorio has a good draw, so should finish in front of FF again; Ballon D'Or is a winner this track and trip - but something may be amiss with the Tarry stable as 3 of their runners have been taken out today with 'mucus'
R6: Looks competitive; I do like Freedom Seeker (and not only on sentimental grounds) and she would be first choice from Strada Statale who is getting another 2 point drop in the ratings and is a winner this track and trip; the de Kock coupling and Sheer Talent could be next best
R7: Classified Stakes, so fillies are best in, and here I fancy Entente, has been dropped in the ratings and is a winner this track and trip, while a good draw does not hurt; Un Deux Trois in good form, but Khumalo has deserted her in favor of Pecan Pie, who looks held by Entente and also is drawn towards the Rand Stadium; best of the males should be Sea Ways and Putins Promise
R8: Looks to be the hardest race on the card; I think one can ignore Future Lady's last effort as she had a wide draw and nothing went right for her in the race - still there are a lot of others that can't be ignored - for me the main ones include So They Say, Southern Song (despite that draw), Mamaquera and Louvain; then we also have Afternoon Tea, who is going to get it right one of these days and does get a set of pacifiers fitted today
Enjoy

I think Castle Corner would run second in a race against himself - Thank goodness I stopped backing him

Indeed - after I had written my piece, I went back to look at the form again - and Flying Bull was beaten 1.25 lengths by Trying Times - Castle Corner ran 2 lengths behind Trying Times - but I thought that CC would improve again in his 2nd start after a rest - he did not - luckily I also ended up including FB in the P6
