I assume you are referring to Gimme and Anna as 2 of the bankers - and the other ?

Don't want to be MAKING A SCENE.

VAAL STRAIGHT SATURDAY DECEMBER 5 FORMGUIDES, SELECTIONS, PERMUTATIONS

by David Thiselton

Race 1:

Preview: BELLA BLACK (1) is the form choice here and represents an in form yard. ALL AGLOW (11) is by Dynasty and is a half-sister to the fair sort Var Aglow. MALVERN (7) should enjoy the step back down in trip and was unlucky last time over 1450m so can do better. QUEEN ANNE'S LACE (4) has run two good races in her last two starts and has a shout. MEET THE CAPTAIN (3) can't be ignored on form and has Yeni up. HIGH BORN LADY (14) is by Master Of My Fate out of Listed winner My Kazzie who has not produced a winner from two runners by Var. (David Thiselton 1-11-7-4-3-14)

Race 2:

Preview: SPARTAN WARRIOR (17), a long-striding sort, was found to be coughing after setting the pace over 1400m and being caught late. LIFE GOES ON (14) should improve from his running on fifth on debut as he should appreciate the step up in trip. DEANAGLO (11) looks capable of improvement after staying on on debut. VARATTI (20) is by Var out of an AP Indy mare whose progeny include six-time winning 92 rated Road To Indy. SUCCESSFUL SECRET (1) has pace and can place again here. RAISETHEREDLANTERN (16) can come on from his fair debut and Khumalo is an eyecatching booking. LAZY GUY (13) could still improve and can earn. (David Thiselton 17-14-11-20-1-16-13)

Race 3:

Preview: SWEET FUTURE (6) won with a bit in hand on debut and the form has been franked so she looks up to an 88 rating. PERSICA (10) looks to be a decent sprinter who is improving and she was running on over this trip for a close third last time. GLOWTORIA (7) was 1,30 lengths ahead of Persica last time despite stumbling and she is only half-a-kilogram worse off. VARINA (3) has her third run after a layoff and ran on strongly last time over 100m so this well regarded sort is interesting over 200m further. DUBAWI PRINCESS (11) has shown ability and is off a reasonable merit rating. HERSTEL (4), THE FIFTH WAVE (5) and ME TIME (2) can also be involved. (David Thiselton 6-10-7-3-11)

Race 4:

Preview: WRITTEN IN STONE (5) is an admirably consistent horse and should be right there again. VALETORIO (4) ran a fine race last time when just 0,25 lengths behind Written In Stone at the same weights as here. PANAMA KID (14) caught the eye when weaving through to win a Workrider's maiden over 1000m on debut and off a reasonable opening mark over a step up in trip he should enjoy he is a runner despite the although the opposition is tough. HOLY MAN (3) goes well for Khumalo and is only 1,5kg worse off with Written In Stone after beating the latter by 1,25 lengths. ROCK OF AFRICA (8) has some eyecatching recent form over this trip. SAVIOUR (13) is 1,5kg better off with Holy Man for a 2,75 length beating and lost a length in that race so if starting on terms could be thereabouts. MAGIC BLAZE (11) and MONEY FIGHTER (9) are hard to ignore. (David Thiselton 5-4-14-3-8-13-11-9)

Race 5:

Preview: GIMMETHEGOAHEAD (2) proved his ability last time when a 1,25 length second to Tree Tumbo over 1600m when receiving just 3kg as the latter subsequently finished fourth in the Grade 2 Charity Mile and third in the Grade 1 Summer Cup. PURPLE PANTHER (1) finished strongly to win his maiden over 1450m and has scope for further improvement. BOLD JAZZ (5) found a strong finish to win his maiden when stepped up to this trip and starts handicapping off a reasonable 83 merit rating. (David Thiselton 2-1-5)

Race 6:

Preview: ANNA CAPRI (6) has speed and class and is easily the best weighted runner. SOUTH EAST (1) probably needed his last run and on previous form should make the frame. SWEET SENSATION (8) is the second best weighted runner according to official merit ratings and should be in the shake up. GREENS (7) is quick and is 3kg better off with Anna Capri for a 3,50 length loss so should get closer. CAPTAIN MORISCO (2) has scope for improvement and could earn. (David Thiselton 6-1-8-7-2)

Race 7:

Preview: WHORLY WHORLY (4) has been a revelation since stepped back up to 1400m and the way he has finished his last two races over 1400m suggests he will stay this trip so he could be the one to beat off just a three point higher mark for his last easy win. FULL MAST (2) is ideally distance suited and comes off a decent three length fifth to the classy Frosted Gold when receiving only 3g so he has a fine chance with Khumalo up. DAN THE LAD (6) won the Grand Heritage two years ago and despite having won three times since is effectively only two points higher in the merit ratings so he is a contender for an in form trainer and jockey. (David Thiselton 4-2-6)

R8

Preview: DARK TIDE (8) sneaks into the handicap with the minimum weight and is distance suited with Khumalo up. ROCK THE GLOBE (2) ran a good race over 1400m last time and should enjoy this trip so hopefully his number one draw is not a disadvantage. PUSH OFF (9) starts handicapping off a reasonable mark after an easy maiden win albeit against weaker opposition than this. (David Thiselton 8-2-9)

R9

Preview: MAKING A SCENE (1) lost a length and had a saddle slip last time when beaten 0,75 lengths over this trip in a similar strength field and can make amends. OPERA GLASS (11) is a R70,000 filly who is a half-sister to the four-time winning 96 rated Oratorio filly Petra and Muzi yeni is an eyecatching booking. WHERESTHATGOLD (3) made late progress over 1450m last time and is a contender in this uninspiring line up. (David Thiselton 1-11-3)

Extremely difficult card imo - will depend on how soft the track is and where the best draws are down that straight - especially the races up to 1200; won't be surprised if there is a P6 carry-over; thoughts ...

R1: I agree with Mr H that Rose Willow is the value here - has made a good a debut on a soft track - just that stand-side draw

R2: Very tough to survive the opening leg of the BP - I have included 10 runners (which probably means the favorite runs in the first 2); Spartan Warrior looks to be the right one after fair debut here over 1400 on a soft track - started at 66/1 though, so anything possible; not a lot between Jet Cat and Successful Secret who are both drawn towards the inside, but there are plenty here that are lightly raced and others that seem to be improving

R3: Everything will depend on the going and if Sweet Future handles it, obviously won a strong maiden, but this is a handicap and she needs to give weight (yes not a lot) to 4x winners like Persica and Twelve Oaks; I also think Varina is very smart and should have won her last start after being done at the start; so I'm playing to beat the favorite

R4: A handicap with 15 runners - again the state of the track and the draws should be the difference; for me I think Rock of Africa will be right there after a good last run; Magic Blaze may be better than rated and does get a whole lot of weight from fellow 3 yr old The Contractor, who ran well in the features in KZN; Silver Master another that I will be including

R5: This is where many will be looking for that banker; Gimmethegoahead's last run imo flatters him; and for me he ran to his rating, which means that he has as good as chance as any in this handicap; I do fancy Forever Light to give him a real go, while After Hours is also a danger; as to Florida Keys, on the Nursery run should be held by Tai Gold, who has lost his form, but gets blinkers today and may not be the worst to throw in if one is looking for that big payout

R6: The other potential banker, Anna Capri runs here, and for me the only negative is the possible soft conditions; looks well weighted and should hold Greens and Sweet Sensation, who could be the biggest danger, as she ran well in soft conditions last time; South East has fluffed his lines twice in soft going, but if it dries out could be a danger on earlier form with Captain Morisco

R7: 16 runners in this handicap where a few of the bottom weights (including the favorite Oscar Wilde) are out at the weights; for me I don't know why Striker abandoned Whorly Whorly, as he should be the one to beat imo - in form, likes the trip, handles soft going, so lots to like; that being said one has to respect What You Are, coming to form and rating has dropped quite a lot; Rouge Allure does seem better over further these days, but has won her last start over the 1400 at this track by more than 6 lengths and also does not mind the wet; Spanish Boy and Naafer tries further and could be upset potential in another difficult race to predict.

R8: Another competitive event; for me Kayla's Champ ran to around 100 last week; so does seem well in here, but the wet going may be an issue; both Tarry runners have also not raced on soft ground, but there does not seem to be much between them on their form in the Ready-to-Run race in the Cape this time last year; Dark Tide consistent form and another who is not proven in wet going, while Push Off is out at the weights, but being lightly raced, has obvious room for improvement

R9: Weak maiden field to finish; for me I'm taking a chance on Electric Boots; ran well in soft going before, is a blinker strike, and seems to have only the favorite to beat

Enjoy B)

Irwin and Anant Singh owned and raced the broodmare, My Kazzie, named after Mike Azzie. The winner is therefore a home bred of the same partnership.

Comparing the times of this win and that of Sweet Future I think High Born Lady will win her next start if she goes the handicap route - two decent fillies
