Lyle banned for a week

Inquiry – Jockey Lyle Hewitson

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Durban on 30 November 2020, Jockey Lyle Hewitson was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7. The particulars of the charge being, that as the rider of MATTERHORN, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to ANSE LAZIO (AUS) at the 100m in Race 6 at the Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on 25 October 2020.

Jockey Hewitson pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Inquiry Board found Jockey Hewitson guilty as charged and after considering all factors in mitigation, which included his clean record, imposed a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for a period of seven (7) days.

Jockey Hewitson has the Right of Appeal against the finding and the penalty imposed.

Just asking for a friend,why do they ask these guys to plead,they never ever found not guilty as the whole process is an absolute farce,with the sanction being decided before hand.

Even if it's NOT they at least have to make it (the farce) LOOK professional:(

I have seen guilty pleas especially with appies - Just the other day a Trainer with a substance case plead guilty
Apprentice Jockey Sakayi pleaded guilty to the charge.
Apprentice Jockey Solomons pleaded guilty to the charge.

The jest of my post was if ever "pleaded guilty,found not guilty"',these seem to be far and few between, as the'"Plea"'
is just lip service to the whole judicial system(Inquiry)

I think the suspension is harsh - the interference was not "dangerous" or "reckless" and he paid the price by losing the race in the board room.

I suppose he will serve it next season.
