R2, Double Charge, ever since being gelded has been consistent. Back over ground van Niekerk retains the ride, always an encouraging sign, (methinks), and being a 4 year old with the highest MR, he is the one they all have to beat. Joint favourite, Warrior, will have to find a bit drawn wider out.
R3, Chile Jam, finished ahead of Silver Sabre, who came out and won next start, comfortably putting Wild Creature away. Should appreciate the extra.
R7, Gainsford, taking on some hard knockers, but hasn't done anything wrong since going back to the Cape. Latest win was full of merit when conceding weight all-round. Obvious danger is Moon Rock who is now an additional 3.0kgs better off at the weights for a 0.20 length beating. Going to trust Domeyer won't allow Solomons to get too far ahead and it becomes a real scrap late in the piece.
Taken the above as a treble, and then dutched Pink Tourmaline and Two Pennies in R6, with the above three. You can put a line through Two Pennies last run, in a Grade 2 from a wide draw. Won it's debut in good style when turning home just about last with some 13 lengths to make up. Pink Tourmaline was a comfortable winner of her maiden, just think both are one time winners and with a pull at the weights, Two Pennies could run them down.

Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

I see that there is a bit of wind in CPT today. Anyone near the course who can tell us whether its a tail/ head/ side wind please?

A blustery day with strong gusts of wind. Fresh headwind for today and the course has dried out and will be quite firm despite the irrigation.
Race 1 Arctic Ice and Lady Catherine the obvious two on exposed form but quite a few first timers as well as Glacier Gold and After the Storm which had decent debuts and could improve significantly.
race 2 Double Charge has been priced up favourite- he has solid form and should enjoy the step up in trip, so he will be involved in the finish but I prefer others. My value ew is again Unbroken Promises which has yet to regain his best early form, but is a big threat when he does come right. Hikaru showed good improvement last time and despite the wide draw could finish in front of stablemate Greenlightflash which must have a shout here. Warrior decent debut and can step up here but also a wide draw to overcome. Picture the Moment also should go into quartets.

Race 3 Karoo Winter flopped badly last time, but can win if returning to best. Wild Creature and Chile Jam good form and will be right there. Golightly good improvement last time and could earn a cheque.
Race 4 Our mare Helen's Ideal takes on the boys, and with the benefit of the F&M allowance and the 2.5kg claim is well in at the weights. She hasn't won beyond a mile yet, but has run a couple of good races this trip. I'm hopeful that she can win this. Seventh Gear has good form and is still improving and is the one to beat. Capoeira returns from a break and a poor run in the July, but on best form is second best weighted. Knights Templar also still has room for improvement and should be in the shakeup.
Race 5 I have Fynbos and Grey Princess running here, and both should run well. Fynbos a bit unlucky last time when stuck behind horses and will relish the trip. Grey Princess gets the benefit of the 4kg claim. There are some very promising up and coming 3yos which will be tough to beat as they are probably still ahead of the handicapper. Marina and Twicethequality look the top two, but there are others with chances.
Race 6 Despite the scratchings still a very open race. I have a marginal preference for Pink Tourmaline.
Race 7 Gainsford is a progressive sort and can step up again. Moon Rock gave cheek last time and could again be the main threat. Very open if Gainsford does not make it.
race 8 Anything can win this
