Whilst the focus will be on the Turffontein meeting, think there are some decent bets to be had in the Cape.

R2, Lady Catherine, especially with the apprentice taking 4.0kgs off the back. On paper, should finish ahead of Qaaraat again. Flashlight may need the run and first run in the Cape since Woodruff relocated - the money would be a good indication, not that horses that have drifted have never won.

R5, on a line of form through Fire Walker, I think Cape Of Storms has the beating of both Fire Walker and Nevil Mu. Winter Assembly may be the danger, especially on their run to Nevil Mu (30/08). Going to say Cape Of Storms did not enjoy the underfoot conditions that day, whilst Winter Assembly prefers the sting out the ground, so i think Cape Of Storms will reverse the placings.

R6) Al's My Daddy, lighty raced 4 year old who should be open to improvement. Favourite, Lion's Head, is taking a steep rise in class, and would have to run to it's rating or better to win here. Northern Song, another three year old who is a recent maiden winner. I will look to oppose both.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

The South easter is pumping today, so a stiff headwind. While the big money will be in Jhb, there are a couple of interesting races here, but disappointingly small fields.
race 1 Only 5 runners after the scratchings, and I Did What I Did won't find an easier opportunity to shed his maiden. Short Cut and happy Chappy fair form, and Real Advisor probably more distance suited than the other first timer.
Race 2 Lady Catherine has solid form and is the first choice as she should hold all of 3,4,5 on her last run. Flashlight has consistent Jhb form and has a chance. First Timer Galiek Yo Baby ( where do people find these names??) has come in from 33/1 to 5/1.
Race 3 Unbroken Promises flopped in the wet after a long break last time. On his two prior runs can pop up here. Triple Jet good improvement last time and is the one to beat. Dirty Martini also very good improvement last time and will be in the frame. Coromandel was not disgraced on debut from a very wide draw and could show big improvement.
Race 4 Ashford Castle is the best horse in this race with two great efforts in KZN, but not sure if he is ready or that 1000m is his trip. If he fails, then this is wide open.
Race 5 A very competitive handicap. The value ew could be Line of Power
Race 6 Lion's Head a possible banker. Northern Song another improving 3yo is the main danger. Rockin Ringo and Al's My Daddy look the best of the older hard knockers.
Race 7 I will side with the 3yos again- Silvano's Timer, Kariba Hall and Star of the South in that order. Lucky Dancer and Cyber law can fill the quartet.
Frustratingly, my entry Elusive Tango came up with an abcess this week- the form of his win did not seem so strong at the time, but Half and Half has won twice since then and two other winners as well, so I was keen to see how he would do in this competitive field.
Race 8 Karoo Winter is overdue her maiden win and is my pick here. Rain In Newmarket is a big danger after two good runs. While it looks a two horse race on exposed form, there are a few well bred, lightly raced fillies that could upset- Walk of Fame, Zeta Jones, Inbetween Dreams.
K de Melo has top rides from both Kannemeyer and Kotzen so should take the jockey honours today

De Melo riding most of the favourites , with all the other top jocks out of town he should make it a clean sweep in the Cape today. At least 4 winners for him

Was a disgrace, just sitting on the horse. She must have been scared as she didn’t move. I feel for anyone who backed the horse as with some vigor it would have been a different result

lady catherine if she uses her speed and stays up the standside rail would have a huge chance. The other dark horse at 16/1 Gallic girl, she at times has kicked a few lengths clear and got caught late.
