And so it continues....
The shortest priced horse of the day manages to miss the break.

Oh so the trainer does know that she is slow out the pens.
That's exactly his job, make sure she jumps, that's the most important thing for her to run a decent race otherwise you always on the back foot.
It proves costly to everyone involved.
Three strikes and you should get a ban, maybe then they will make sure she jumps on terms.

I give up - maybe you should too because when its there in black and white that she is a slow starter and she is drawn wide then what more do you need - Maybe racing should be stopped until every favorite wins every race?

Mr.H I'm not trying to argue with you as you sure do know more than me.
What I'm trying to say is she going to be a slow starter for the rest of her life or is the trainer going to get some extra help to overcome that problem that he knows about?
Do think in HK if a horse misses the break 3 times in a row questions won't be asked or the horse banned until it can prove it jumps on terms, don't you think that's fair?

Its not about knowing more its about gambling and its nature - only about 30% of favs win for decades so accept that as part of racing and use that to your advantage - You can't keep trying to change that which is a fact - either you accept that as part of Racing or you find another hobby or gambling outlet where more favs win - Yes there are times where races are crook but mostly horses are trying - Just look at the Derby at Epsom - do you think that was rigged? Do you think that the jockeys conspired? - Racing is tough and UNPREDICTABLE - Just try to teach your dog(if you have one) some new command- now try that same command or action with 30 different dogs and see how easy that is -

MissT wrote: Bob the pools have increased from that first week back but nowhere near what they were and I'm sure you are correct about covering costs. Would be interesting to see how bookies are doing just on Horseracing compared to pre lockdown. Notice each day on the Tote online site that they have some sort of banking problem and its been going on forever. They just can't seem to understand what fast effective efficient service is.

Total turnover today approx R600k per race, plus the exotics, so in excess of R7m for the day. Well below last year levels, but they only paying stakes of R 540k instead of R1m. Assuming an average takeout of 15%, They are therefore more than covering operational costs of the race meeting, and making a decent contribution to overheads. They also get the revenue on international racing, and soccer pools are again on the go. My guess is that apart from interest on debt, Phumelela could now be trading profitably thanks to the huge cut in stakes, and provided they cut the corporate expense fat.
It’s time to look at some restoration of the stakes in the short term.

Oh I accept that Mr.H
I'm not a big player and try play what I can afford but that doesn't mean certain things don't piss me off.
I find there is just too many excuses in this game in this country and most just get accepted.
I want the punter to be protected,I want the stipes to stand up and ask questions when things look a bit awkward not just silence from them.
Like you say if you don't like it leave, unfortunately it's obvious so many have taken your advice and found something better in their opinion, that's exactly why racing is dying in this country.
It should be how can we keep the punters and everybody in the industry happy and wanting to come to the course to watch the horses not if you don't like the way we do it bugger off.
SA racing going into business rescue tells us a lot about how poorly it has been run.
Time to get the peoples confidence and trust back in this game,we can't lose more punters otherwise it's dead and buried.
