Byron Forster Racing Video Uploads
5 years 2 weeks ago
Byron has uploaded tons of racing videos from the late 1980's and into the 1990's on to Youtube in the past 3 weeks. Some really memorable racing including the Main Man/Model Man finish in the Mainstay 1800.
Thanks for sharing Byron.

Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

Been looking for this race for years - As a student just out of School I placed a bet at Loveday Street tats 20-1 Main Man - I shouted so loud that the woman who managed the place(Brown hair and glasses) wanted to kick me out - I think I was the only one that backed that horse in the rooms as the place was silent after the win -

Been looking for this video for years too!
THANK YOU BYRON

My memory or the race was a bit different. My uncle was a big punter at the time and knew Pat Lunn personally. He went in big for Model Man to win the July that year. After Bush Telegraph winning the July he (& all the connections) was adamant that Model Man would not be beaten at Clairwood Park over 1800m. For the next weeks he went in even bigger and shovelled money onto Model Man for the Mainstay looking to recoup the July losses and hit a huge pay day.
I never saw the race or even knew the result. All I know is that when he returned home from Clairwood that sunny Durban Saturday late afternoon, he staggered in, ashen faced, and could not say a word. It was as if he had seen the end of the world coming. At that point I knew that Model Man did not win the race...

One of the great finishes....
I started working at Wits Tattersalls 2 years later...24 bookmaker cubicles which was halved to 12 Bookmakers in the early 90's with the other 12 moving into the new premises at Bruma Lake...
