Fancy the Drier double :-

R1) Pray For Rain X (R8) Croisette
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

Race 1

Glen Kotzen

No 1 Atkinson Grimshaw – Smart colt, straight forward, should be in the money.

Piet Botha

No 2 Emblem Of Hope – Nice horse, should run well if not too green.

Justin Snaith

No 3 Erik The Red – Very nice colt, might find the 900 on the short side, will fight it out.

6 Ocelot – Speedy type, Eachway chance.

Vaughan Marshall

No 4 Joseph Barry – Shown good work at home, expecting to run well.

Dennis Drier

No 5 Pray For Rain – Nice colt, expecting a good run if not too green.

Race 2

Geoff Woodruff

No 6 A Moment Apart – Has galloped but may need the run.

Candice Bass-Robinson

No 3 Springisintheair: Good Eachway chance despite the draw.

Race 3

Piet Botha

No 4 Hope And Pray – Is very well and should be considered for Quartets.

No 1 Senor Don – Is very well and I’m expecting him to have a good Eachway chance.

Candice Bass-Robinson

No 5 Elusive Joker – No form to suggest a winning chance but could come in with more of a chance this being a Maiden handicap.

Race 4

Vaughan Marshall

No 6 Rocket Girl – Good last run and with her handy galloping weight, should be a big runner.

Candice Bass-Robinson

No 5 Cruise Along has an Eacway chance in an open handicap.

Race 5

Dean Kannemeyer

No 4 Victoria Tower – She should now be more suited to this 1400 meter trip and should be in the money.

Vaughan Marshall

No 8 Attagirl – She’s lost form since her winning debut so we’re trying blinkers to see if it will help her.

Adam Marcus

No 1 Forest Field – In good form. taking on a competitive field but can run into the money.

Candice Bass-Robinson

No 6 Sweet Karma – Just out the maidens so it is hard to assess her chances but never too far off them. Include.

No 7 Joy Maisha – First run out of the maidens but could follow up with a big run.

Race 6

Race 7

Mike Stewart

No 2 Icon Princess – She’s a game filly with a top jockey up and although taking on a competitive field, she should give another good account of herself.

Vaughan Marshall

No 9 Binoche – She’s very well and looking to make it three in a row.

Adam Marcus

No 4 Hildegarde – In very good form, takes on a competitive field. Hoping for another good run.

Candice Bass-Robinson

No 3 Crowded House – 1000m could be a bit on the sharp side and she has had an interrupted prep.

No 5 Vandah’s Spirit – Prime run. Good Eachway chance.

No 8 Miss Honey – Small outside chance from the bottom of the weights.

Race 8

Vaughan Marshall

No 4 Fluttering – Had a grass gallop, expect a big run.

No 9 Stella’s Story – Trying 1000 meters. Place chance.

A bit of rain about which shouldn't have much effect, but a strong, gusting tailwind which is unusual for this time of year.
Not an easy day.
Race 1 No selection
Race 2 Spring is in the Air has been knocking on the door and is my selection despite the wide draw. The Vow and Over the Way look the dangers.
Race 3 So now we have Maiden Handicaps in CT- I think these are an abomination. However, we have a struggling maiden Elusive Joker which gets a chance to earn a cheque before heading off to a weaker centre. The only thing that I like about these maiden handicaps is that the younger horses get their proper WFA allowance (5kg here whereas in an ordinary maiden they only get 1kg allowance at this time of year). This is a very poor field and anything can happen.
Race 4 A small but very competitive field. Point of Sale is an improving, decent 3yo and her last run now looks very good after the Fillies Guineas result. The consistent Rocket Girl will press her all the way.
Race 5 Another interesting contest where some useful up and coming 3yos take on the hard knockers. Joy Maisha looks quite well treated at the weights and she is a tentative selection in a very open race.
Race 6 Fortune Flies got 11 MR points for her good second in the Winter Oaks, plus the blanket 10 adjustment. She showed at her seasonal debut that she is up to the task and must be respected here. Coral Bay lost form after some excellent earlier performances and showed a welcome return to form with a fluent win last time. She is still well below her best MR and can easily go in again. None of the others can be discounted.
race 7 Binoche looks special and is selected to make it 3 in a row. Hildegarde is distance suited and very consistent and should again earn a cheque.
race 8 Croisette won easily on debut and is selected to win again. Pippielangkous will enjoy the tailwind and is better than her current rating. My Wicked ways and Mon Cherie are both still on the up.

Race 1 - Looking at trainer comments and at the prices, I'm going for Erik The Red. Dam was pretty good.
