Million Rand Maidens???

Can someone please explain what is the logic behind having million rand maidens?? It is incentivizing running good horses in other maidens clearly underdone in order to lose and still qualify to run in this race. Such a ridiculous concept. Forget the people that back these horses in the previous starts and lose.

Is this a clever approach to improve racing?
My opinion NO
I believe the Operator would obtain far more mileage by having
10 Maiden races with a R100k bonus per race
Far more betting and the money would be spread among more owners etc etc

......I don't disagree.....however this seems to be a "branding" exercise for the sponsor to be recognized as a major supporter of our local racing....if the sponsor spread the purse around the impetus would be totally lost before the "brand" (or deed) has been uniquely established.....

.....well it would seem that the ex-Benonian beauty actually no longer sends the moola and her daddy and the RA pulled funds from un-named sponsors and "contributions".......so that now blows the(branded sponsor) ship /deed right out of the water....

Interesting read that article, if only for the stakes info. Makes you wonder what generous sponsors are out there that wouldn't want their name actually advertised? Although I must admit I lost some of my interest in it at the point in which the article and some of the comments started mentioning the fact that the odds on favourite and banker won the race as a positive for the race itself. Correlation and causation....

I llike and support the idea of a million rand maiden winner. It gives hope to Joe Owner for a windfall after ploughing a lot into the game. However, it is only my opinion and not a whinge, that it is a pity that the winner is a famous global owner. It would be heartwarming to me if these big owners, whom we do dearly need, just step aside and let the other Joe owners scrap amongst themselves for the million rand maiden purse. As for BATTLEOFTRAFALGAR, what a beautiful specimen he is.

I wrote an opinion on the original thread so let me give my reasoning
I bought a small business a number of years ago that had been around for a long
time but was still small
Found out that it was unable to compete due to the agencies and equipment which they
imported had become outdated
In addition the big players had locked up all the big purchasers in deals
I had no option but to chase all the small players for their business and did so by
providing better service and made sure that I never ran out of stock on the day to day item
( Much like a Supermarket with bread and milk)
By the time the 5 big players woke up about 3 years later I had branches in the major cities
and eventually like Avis we are no 2
Exactly what Whitey Basson did for Shoprite
Golden rule DO NOT LOSE THE SMALL CLIENTS
