Here are the trainer comments ahead of Tuesday’s race meeting at Durbanville

Andre Nel:

No 7 Academic Gold has had a grass gallop and should run well.

Glen Kotzen:

No 8 My Wicked Ways – Look for an improved run.

Vaughan Marshall:

No 6 Zodiac Star – Needs to improve to have a chance.

Race 2:

Geoff Woodruff:

No 9 Dollar Brand will need the run but include in exotic and place bets.

Dean Kannemeyer:

No 10 Ulterior Motive will continue to improve, include in exotics.

Vaughan Marshall:

No 4 Winter Oasis – He’s doing well at home and has a good Eachway chance.

Harold Crawford/Michelle Rix:

No 8 Astrix Boy can be a bit difficult. Should need the run.

No 6 Oh So Hot shows nice work at home, looking for improvement.

Race 3:

Glen Kotzen:

No 6 Prince Of Persia – Galloped, might be short, may need further.

Paul Reeves:

No 5 Skidoo – He’s doing very well at home and should run a good race.

Mike Robinson:

No 12 Wadi Rum – He wasn’t disgraced last time out and is one to include in quartets.

Vaughan Marshall:

No 1 Jephthah carries top weight, place chance.

Race 4:

Justin Snaith:

No 4 Dark Crystal – Pretty fit and will take some beating.

Paul Reeves:

No 8 Nanna Anna – Doing well at home but the draw is an issue.

Dean Kannemeyer:

No 3 Dive Captain – Has her first run in the Cape and may need this run but should be included in bets.

Race 5:

Vaughan Marshall:

No 2 Tap O’ Noth has had a grass gallop and should run well.

Andre Nel:

No 4 Capoeira has had a grass gallop and should run well.

No 8 Silver De Lange has had a grass gallop and should run well.

Dean Kannemeyer:

No 7 The Sultans Bazaar – He has good Durban form but has not raced since June. May just need it but should be included in perms.

Race 6:

Glen Kotzen:

No 5 Hexatonic – He needed his first run back after gelding and should be competitive here.

Race 7:

Glen Kotzen:

No 7 Lit – He’s improved a lot since his gelding and should be the one to beat.

Harold Crawford/Michelle Rix:

No 1 Alfred’s Legacy – If he’s not too green, he could run into the placings.

Race 8:

Glen Kotzen:

No 7 Arctic Princess – She’s having her first run back after a break and should need it.

No 9 Dynastic Light – Ran a close second on debut and should be the filly to beat.

No 12 Mary Lee – Look for improvement with the blinkers.

Mike Robinson:

No 5 This Ones For Tony – She tries blinkers and a longer trip and I’m expecting a better run.

Dean Kannemeyer:

No 10 Joyful Winter – She should improve a lot with the blinkers on.

Harold Crawford/Michelle Rix:

No 13 Rosemary Meadow – Should do better over this longer trip.

No 1 Turndownthelights – She’s working well and from a good draw is one to include in the quartets.

WADI RUM (E/W)

20/1

Wadi rum is well in at the weights in this race based of his last start

Only receiving 1.5kgs for finishing 4.65lengths off a grade 1 sprinter
Wadi finished in 8th place!

If wadi rum finished in second place but still 4.65lengths off the grade one sprinter(would the handicapping still be the same?)

Also wadi rum lost 2lengths at the start on this occasion

2.25lengths off BWANA who is 16points higher than the top Merit horse in this race

I'm not the best with the handicapping stuff,so Frodo or bopp! Some assistants

imo, i would be cautious using that race formline... This is the way i see it-

Pacific Trader was very very well in in that race. Pacific Trader MR 125. Vincente rated 100 finished 2nd carrying 6kgs less. Should have been 12,5kg less purely on MR. SO in essence, finsihed 0.5l behind PT 6.5kg under sufference... The same case can be made for the runners who finished 3rd and 4th....

This is the way i see it..... Will be interesting to see how the guru's see it..

you are quite right about Wadi Rum running against pacific trader and seems to run well at durbanville only prove is this horse took 13 runs to break its maiden then ran no where in a 74 then they put in a pnncl which i dont understand one has to bare in mind pacific trader gave wadi rum 9kg so o think ill give wadi a skip today but will be watching..

someone gave a dbl 4s a crowd place x dynastic light i fancy that double strong
..owner likes to do ron ron in the 1st

Hi
Well spotted Wadi Rum. I don't think that you can use the winner as the line horse, as he did not have to run to his best to win and was coming off a break. However, if you use the next few horses, then Wadi Rum ran at least 10-15 points above his rating, ignoring his slow start. A repeat of that run should see him win easily.. However, that was by some margin his best run to date (15 starts) and could be a flash in the pan. He gets a fair draw, and he has always run well this track, so certainly shouldn't be 20/1 in an ordinary handicap.

Race 1 Linda Loves Lace has spoiled her chances at the start last two- if she behaves she is the one to beat. All About Sophia fair form but not a great draw. Cyber Blossom had good 2yo form but disappointing lately- capable at best. Not much between To Do Ron Ron and Ryanair last time, but both need improvement to win. Some support for first timer Academic Gold, and doesn't need to be great to win on debut. My Wicked Ways did not perform in the wet on debut but could improve on good going.
Race 2 An open maiden. I like Warrior Tiger as the value bet here- has run a couple of decent races in features and last time had a very wide draw. Mr Cobbs, Stormin Norman, Cape of Storms and Ulterior Motive can all challenge. Support for Al Bragga despite very poor debut run in the wet- the family have all done well so hopefully Neigh will give us a hint.
Race 3 An open race, and as discussed above, Wadi Rum must be considered on his last run. Mr Vargus, Djockovic, Bellingham Bay, Skidoo all have good current form. Golden Tractor tough draw. The well bred Prince of Persia will probably end up the best of this lot, and if fit must be respected.
Race 4 Another quite open handicap, and quite a few with chances. Fleeced has plenty scope for improvement and with the stable companion scratched, looks the value here as an improving 3yo against some older hard knocking fillies.
Race 5. Head Honcho is the stand out here if fit. Tap O Noth is a smart horse, and was entered for the Algoa Cup, but unlikely to run there under 68kg. The Sultans Bazaar showed good improvement last two, and looks a bit ahead of his rating, so must be respected if not needing the run. Presumably the Plattner yard will ensure a reasonable pace with one of their 3 runners.
Race 6 A small field. Double the Fun improved last time to win well but is a very skinny price. Late at Night should enjoy the step up in trip and could be anything. Hexatonic looked in need of last run, and on best form can win this. Veratrum has done nothing wrong and is on the upgrade although Fourie has chosen Double Fun.
Race 7. A boat race between Imperial Rage and Lit. At 7/2 Lit is the better value.
Race 8 A 3- horse race. Dynastic Light is rather a skinny price, but she went close on debut and has the most scope for improvement so is first choice. Mayfern and Halliberry are the other two for the trifecta.

You sure about that Biggie,76 runners since their last win?
That's a shocking stat for any stable, never mind a stable as big as the Bass one.
