...took the bet only once and a straight line cost R13.....the quintet is supposed to pay 1st and 2nd.... 2nd and 1st ....since the horses I selected ran in the top 2 places ....surly I should have caught it twice....

Its correct as per the amount R13. The Quintet is any order of the first two.
They had 8 runners. Essentially you had a banker with seven runners and then banker with six runners as one combination was already covered in the first permutation. That's why the cost is R13 not R14.

Hi Bob
With regards to the Quinella query, the calculation works out as follows:
6,8/1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 = R13
The selection is:
6/1,2,3,4,5,7,8 = R7
8/1,2,3,4,5,7 = R6
As you can see from this, it does not charge for the 8/6 combination as this is already a combination in the 6/8 bet string.
I hope that this clears up the query.

.....thanx nice to know....thank f@ck i only took this once as a multiple would have been a bigger loss....will in future take separate bets if I want to select more than one banker.....but doubt that I will be playing this bet as the returns are not that good.....
