Trainer Comments and Nadine’s 1st four
RACE 1 :
1ST FOUR SELECTIONS :
1 / 2 / 5 / 4
GAVIN SMITH - Numbers 2 and 9 - HALLO ROSIE & SPORT CHIC : Both fillies prefer the Poly and they have a place chance.
JACQUES STRYDOM - Numbers 3, 5 and 6 - HURRICANE SASHA, DESERT WANDERER & TREE OF LIFE : Hurrican Sasha is always thereabouts. 1000m is a touch short for Desert Wanderer but she will be there. Her latest runs have been disappointing, we are hoping for improvement.
RACE 2 :
1ST FOUR SELECTIONS :
5 / 3 / 4 / 9
ALAN GREEFF - Numbers 1, 3, 7 and 8 - ESPRESSIVO, BUTTERFLY SPIRIT, NICOLE & POPINJAY : Espressivo is at her best on the Poly, she was a gutsy winner in her last. Butterfly Spirit is better than her uncharacteristic last and we are hopeful of placing. Nicole must do more. Popinjay was a good winner in her last, she’s drawn well, bumps a similar field and could be there again.
JACQUES STRYDOM - Numbers 2 and 5 - WHO KNOWS & FLAME OF FIRE : Both were good winners in their last and though they are up in class here they not are out of it.
RACE 3 :
1ST FOUR SELECTIONS :
3 / 2 / 6 / 4
GAVIN SMITH - Numbers 2, 4 and 14 - ARIKARA, COUNTESS CANTABRIA & PERCEPTIONIST : Arikara ran a good race in her last and should thereabouts. Countess Cantabria enjoys track and trip. Perceptionist will enjoy trying the extra.
JACQUES STRYDOM - Numbers 6 and 8 - ARCTIC SIREN, STORYFIELDS & MONEY BUYS LOVE : Arctic Siren ran great last, it was a well improved run and we are hoping she can follow up. Storyfields is always thereabouts and will appreciate being over a little shorter. Money buys Love is better on Poly, but she does have a wide draw against her.
RACE 4 :
1ST FOUR SELECTIONS :
4 / 1 / 7 / 2
SHARON KOTZEN - Numbers 1 and 8 - LET’S BE FRANK & WINGSOVERCLOUDS : Let’s be Frank starts for the yard for the first time. He is nice horse and though this may be a bit short for him he can be competitive. Wingsoverclouds has his first run after the gelding, as well as his first run for the yard and on the Poly. It is a starting point for him.
ALAN GREEFF - Number 4 - MISCHIEVIOUS GREEN : Each way chance in an open field.
RACE 5 :
1ST FOUR SELECTIONS :
3 / 4 / 5 / 2
GRANT PADDOCK - Numbers 2 and 3 - PROSPECT STRIKE & BORDER CONTROL : Prospect Strike is holding form, he has an each way chance. Border Control will run a much better race over the mile and also comes in with an each way shout.
ALAN GREEFF - Number 4 - JIKA : Competitive little field, but he is consistent and will run well.
RACE 6 :
1ST FOUR SELECTIONS :
2 / 9 / 7 / 3
SHARON KOTZEN - Numbers 1 and 7 - STAR EVOLUTION & MARGOT FONTEYN : They both have their first starts for the yard and are nice fillies. Star Evolution is drawn well and her work is good. Margot Fonteyn also cracks a drawn and relocates with fair Cape form.
ALAN GREEFF - Numbers 2, 4, 9 and 10 - STUDIO BLUES, FOOLS GARDEN, QUAKESHAKE & PIAZZA DEL CAMPO : It is always hard going for four in a row, but Studio Blues hasn’t put a foot wrong so far and can’t be disrespected. Fools Garden ran a good placing in her last, she loves the Poly and can feature again. Quakeshake posted a fair local debut on Turf and considering she does look to prefer Poly she is expected to run well and get even closer. Piazza del Campo beat the boys to leave the maidens. She is up in class, but is expected to enjoy the extra she tries here.
RACE 7 :
1ST FOUR SELECTIONS :
4 / 9 / 7 / 8
TARA LAING - Numbers 2 and 4 - ARANJUEZ & TWICE A POET : Aranjuez has his first run for the yard, he would prefer further. Twice a Poet must have a good chance.
ALAN GREEFF - Numbers 6 and 8 - GUADALUPO & AFRICAN MESSIAH : Guadalupo is drawn well and can improve on his last. African Messiah tries the blinkers for the first time locally and is never far back.
RACE 8 :
1ST FOUR SELECTIONS :
4 / 3 / 2 / 6
SHARON KOTZEN - Numbers 3, 7 and 8 - SMOKEY AFFAIR, VALENTINE’S GIRL & SEA BEAN : Smokey Affair ran a great race last time out and drawn well, she has run a few crackers on the Poly so we are hoping that she follows up. Valentine’s Girl is very honest and versatile on surfaces she can be right there again. Sea Bean won very well on local debut, she could be at her best over further than the mile here, but she is a runner.
JACQUES STRYDOM - Number 4 - SAO PAULO : She was unlucky last time out and is probably the yard’s best runner on the day.
RACE 9 :
1ST FOUR SELECTIONS :
1 / 2 / 4 / 6
ALAN GREEFF - Numbers 1 and 7 - SEATTLE MERMAID & QUINELIA : Seattle Mermaid was a narrow second in her last and can go one better. Quinelia is drawn wide unfortunately, but does enjoy the surface and can improve on her last.
DUNCAN MCKENZIE - Number 2 - BARBARELLA NIGHTS : He is very honest and will run well.
