....looks like a prelude to another night race meeting....

Equinity to glamorise Highveld racing

This November, the grand and historic Turffontein Racecourse will be transformed into a theatrical wonderland with the launch of the first ever SA Equinity extravaganza – Illuminessence.

Horseracing fans have traditionally flocked to the coast for the big race days in Durban and Cape Town. For the first time ever on 10 November, Turffontein Racecourse will host a lavish and sophisticated night-time race event known as Equinity.

Equinity is an extravagant show and performance, built around, and incorporated into, night-time horseracing. This world-class entertainment will include aerial acts and purpose-built sets to create a mystical world, with an extraordinary audio-visual production to enthral the crowds after the final race.

“We believe we can surprise and create awe through what we do. We take people on an emotional journey using music, entertainment, cuisine, performance, and art. And we will do this at a place you would least expect it – under the stars at a night-time horseracing event,” says Angus Campbell, CEO of Events Management Company Campbell and Campbell.

Using the powerful energy of thoroughbred racehorses as a backdrop, Equinity will be a spectacular journey, which will begin with a fine-dining experience and culminate in these extraordinary performances.

Equinity inverts every element of the traditional horserace experience, as guests become participants, rather than mere spectators. Visitors can take part in exciting themes, interact through dress-up, and continually discover new elements.

Each year a new themed show will transforms grand, historic, horseracing arenas into an interactive, experiential fantasyland. Vivid and eclectic lighting shows, amplified sounds, and performances will be curated to deliver a powerful experience.

“We are very excited to be the first to host Equinity in South Africa and cannot wait to show a new audience the beauty and intensity of racing when they experience this event for the first time,” adds Clyde Basel, Racing Executive at Phumelela Gaming and Leisure Limited. – Racing! It’s A Rush

LA CALAVERA

This is a tale flavoured by Latino, South American and Spanish influences, of a secret society who called themselves La Calavera “The Elegant Skull’.
Unshackled and determined to live without restraint; the society committed themselves to a life of instant gratification above all else.
La Calavera is the story of their experiences as the society embraces all life has to offer, travelling through faraway lands and exploring with abandon any sensory pleasure on offer.
With untold wealth, they live for pleasure and desire. They dream, play and live a life unmatched, determined to elevate themselves above their mortal worlds, only to find themselves slowly ravaged by the effects of their hedonism and careless living.
Ultimately redemption comes, as they are forced to confront the pain and melancholy of the real world. Through the awareness of the afterlife, the powers of the elegant skull symbolizes their mortal connection to the very world they sought to escape.
A story of joy, loss, pleasure and pain, and a grand finale celebrating life itself

...so an events company made a killing on selling out a high priced jol held on a race course....what did racing and the promotion thereof get out of it....is anything plowed back in race sponsorship and on course betting revenue increase....something very odd that this side show was the big event and the racing became the sideshow.....

Loads of free tickets dished out so would take the Sold Out signs with a pinch of salt.
